UK TV - CBS Action to show ST: TOS

It’s one of the most revered TV shows of all time and it’s coming to CBS Action (formally Zone Thriller). Yes, I’m talking about Star Trek – The Original Series and each episode has been carefully remastered with brand new state of the art CGI effects.

CBS Action will boldly start the run on Monday November 16th with the original pilot, The Cage which stars Jeffrey Hunter as Captain Christopher Pike, not a James T. Kirk in sight!

More information to come over the next few weeks so be sure to add Sky 148 or Freesat 137 as your favourite station and get all the latest Star Trek: The Original Series broadcast information first by joining us on Twitter www.twitter.com/zonethriller

TOS RM in the UK? I'll watch that if my mate's Digibox gets it (which it should).

Captain Robert April, I'm guessing it will depend on how many ads are on that channel. Some cable channels seem to be adopting the US ad break regime, an ad after 5 minutes etc, which just wouldn't be the norm on the mainstream UK channels.

Well, so long as they restrict the ads to the designated act breaks, there shouldn't be a problem. If they do like Sci-Fi did and, literally, interrupt scenes IN THE MIDDLE OF DIALOGUE!!, well, they should prepare for the letters...

Looking forward to this. I've noticed the Zone channels on FreeSat before, but only ever occasionally tuned in... usually for a disappointing Twilight Zone from the 80's.

Can't wait to see what CBS does with this station. Hopefully more classic shows from its archives like Lost in Space and other Irwin Allen series will be dusted off.

I can see TOS being the only Trek it runs, with the rights to TNG thru ENT already in the hands of Virgin 1 & Bravo. Bully for CBS keeping this all to itself...

People, buy TOS on DVD. Please.

If you can't get for a good price new, get it secondhand at places that sell it secondhand.

ABC1 used to do that - an ad break after the opening titles, one in the middle, then one before the closing credits.

According to Broadcast, they're running "more than 70,000 hours of drama, reality and long form content, including Dynasty and the original re-mastered series of Star Trek. The channels will also acquire third party programming." So I'd imagine they'll be gracing our screens with the likes of Judge Judy and Survivor. Whoop-de-do.

No Lost In Space, since that's owned by Fox Television Studios-maybe wait until the Fox channel in the UK shows it?

Yeah, i saw this bit of news crop up a while ago.

Ive never really given the Zone channels much time to be honest, thought they were full of crap until Starsky and Hutch, Airwolf and The A Team cropped up occasionally, i think.

Be great to get a regular dose of TOS after work or whenever.

Lets see if they chop em up like they did when i went to New York and caught TOS in the hotel room. Ended up turning it over to the local news channel.

The premiere was on this evening.

I was up at my ex's, watching our daughter while she shopped. Little girl went up to bed, fast asleep, all was quiet, popped on the TV and got 15 minutes before the ex was back and
FlashForward went on :rolleyes::lol:

What I saw was great, the merge from Enterprise outside to the view through the bridge dome looked quite slick. I hoped I might get to see an enhanced phaser cutting through a mountain, but to no avail.

I'm glad that UK fans have a channel they can watch TOS on, but to be honest, the post just plain STINKS of spam.

Look at how it's worded, how it sounds.

This thread is a commercial ad for a cable/satellite channel.

I suspect the OP simply cut and pasted the wording from the original news report he found. The post is pretty valid and useful.

Anyhow, I didn't actually see the thread until now, having discovered the new channel totally by accident half an hour ago.

Nice new effects here, but it's annoying that they've made it into a faux 16:9 ratio by cropping the top and bottom the screen...

The only remastered episode I've seen was the theatrical showing of Star Trek: The Menagerie, so I've put these episodes on record. Will have an opinion of them no doubt at the end of the week, or not.

The interesting thing about that is, we're seeing more of the new FX, since these are the uncropped 16:9 compostions... while all the original 60's footage has been zoomed in. I predicted TV stations would hack these shows about when they began remastering them... Weirdly, CBS Action is not fussed about sticking to the full 4:3 frame for just about everything else it shows.

Additionally since they only broadcasts the square frame, there's no widescreen switching signal... at least not on FreeSat. You can tell everytime they go to ad breaks, or if you turn over to a widescreen broadcast... BBC1 for instance.

Well, the OP at least, I was genuinely surprised by the news. I think my quota of caption contest wins puts me above mere bot
