UK BBSers: From Russia with SNOW....

Well, getting back on topic, now it's the North and Scotland's turn to bear the brunt of the snow. Anyone up there, keep warm. :)
I hope we get some at least, it's all melted round here now. I'd be nice to have a proper amount of snow for a change.
Wamdue, What's wrong with "The North"? It's not really that grim you know... Or it could be, what do I know, I'm a Northerner after all.

Just a quick word of advice to those not used to driving in these conditions:

Getting up to speed isn't the problem, it's stopping in the allotted distance that's the problem. 4WD helps you GO, it doesn't help you STOP.

That's what pedestrians are for. ;)

Hermiod, stay home, and stay warm! No job is worth a broken bone. ;)

K'eylehr, warm the hot dogs and carrots, serve with onion gravy (you do have an onion?). Strain the lychees and decorate creatively with glace cherries so they look like boobs. Photograph and display on TrekBBS.

Why did you suggest this, my man now thinks I'm a weird fruity perv...

Was going to be creative with the carrot rounds and the hot dogs but I'll leave that to your imagination:lol:

The latest news headlines- SNOWBOUND workers across Britain are today expected to encounter the Jeremy Kyle Show for the very first time
As blizzards paralyse the nation's transport network experts say that by 1pm millions will find themselves inexorably drawn towards the ITV2 mutant horror cavalcade.

Tom Logan, a solicitor from Kent, said: "Not me, I'll be using my laptop to get on with some important work. Probably.

"And not that I'm remotely interested, but apparently today's show is about this bloke who's married to three sisters, two of them are his and four of the children are married to their own mothers. They're calling it 'Help! I Think My Mum is My Wife's Brother's Wife!'."

Well, I've pretty much decided not to get out of bed tomorrow too early and work from home anyway, but there is absolutely no way I am watching daytime TV! I'm just simply stranded, not unemployed. I have standards!

Although, now you've mentioned it, maybe I'll give it a go. Just for a few minutes, it can't hurt...

Give in to your impulse. Sample the Kyle. Taste the Kyle. You know you want to.

I've actually devoted my time to Trisha (while she lasts...). Today's was particularly fun.

Not as fun as today's Wogan's Perfect Recall though. :guffaw:

We should be getting blizzards up here in Yorkshire about now, but so far it's been quite tranquil - nothing more than a light dusting (although it is a bit parky outside). Still getting a day off with pay tomorrow :D as the management at work has decided to close for the day....

Tomorrow's front pages are suitably dramatic.

No really good puns though... :(

(I was hoping for an "ABOMINABLE!!!" headline over a juxtaposition of a snowman on one side and the chaos on the other. Sort of like the Sun's front page but with a prohibitively long 5 syllable headline)

I suspect later this week. Maybe the weekend. I rather doubt it will last into next week.

Really, that's precisely the reason snow disrupts this country (by which I mean the economic heartlands of London & the South East where the media are also concentrated) so much - we're just not set up to deal with it. If it were a regular, month-long event, it would be planned for (and the population would set themselves up to deal with it too). But instead, it's too rare & expensive to plan for, and instead is dealt with in an emergency fashion (shut down service, close schools, don't go into work, etc).

The last time we had snow that lasted for weeks here down south was back in the mid-80s (I want to say 86 or 87). People adapted by about week 2. And that was MUCH heavier snowfall.

Wait, they cancel public transit for snow?

;)

I thought the buses in Ottawa were on strike... I assume that's an old photo? (It can't be that old, though. When I lived in Ottawa, I think the buses were orange.)

Not anymore, they should be back by the end of this week\beginning of next week. But it is an old photo, yeah.

And buses have been red and white here dating back to at least the mid-80s.

Glad to hear it - I have a friend who's been biking to work. Better her than me...

Really? I wonder what I was thinking of, then. Maybe it's the buses in Kitchener-Waterloo that were orange back then. (Gimme a break, I'm old. ;) )
