UK BBSers: From Russia with SNOW....

Well, slush froze as feared, roads are a toboggan ride, had one car slide past the house today, our road isn't exactly wide, wouldn't be surprised if he clipped a few cars en route. He'd better have been a doctor or Spiderman or something, cos if not he's a real idiot for getting behind the wheel.

Anyone driving or thinking of driving in the Bristol area today, and probably tomorrow, advice form the police is: DON'T.

wamdue, i've had trouble getting milk since wednesday. but, i'm gritless in gloucestershire.

no more snow today, some ice, but the road seems clear now. biggest problem was getting out the front gate...

Why the fuck didn't these imbeciles stockpile the grit on a yearly basis?! I understand about saving money on bulk buying grit and the impracticality of buying expensive snow moving vehicles for once every twenty years snow fall, but these fuck ups could've had the common sense to keep storing up grit every Winter even when there were negligible amounts of snow fall.

probably because they lost a load of money to the collapse of an Icelandic bank.

certainly Stroud District Council did...

Councils have been making cutbacks to services since the early 1990s. The modern fiscal theory is to sell off all the contingencies, increasing liquidity for spending and reinvestment and paying for the executive bonuses. When trouble does eventually come, it will be somebody else's problem. You play the odds that it won't happen on your watch.

Eight degrees Celsius out side at the moment and the snow is melting fast. I hear the creek at the corner of Knickerbocker and Ferguson is on the verge of overflow. Once I finish up in the workshop I'll grab some shots and post 'em Monday.

Curse you Crazy Fishtank Lady and your endless design improvements! ...at least she pays cash. :D

anyone else having difficulty getting milk today?

My village shop ran out of milk temporarily but thankfully a delivery got through. Have had no post again today, bins not been emptied this week, no bus again today though.

Many of the roads and paths in town are like ice rinks.

Well, looks like the end is in sight, but not without one last fling:

As Paxman famously said, "Take a brolly with you."

There may well be floods coming back again - hopefully not a repeat of the 2007 floods. Me, my street is still covered in snow which refuses to melt away (although last night's brief flurry and my street's relatively high elevation will have contributed to that), while my back garden remains untouched by the potential thaw. So, for anyone who still misses the snow... form an orderly queue, please. :bolian:

I think Wales, the West and the Midlands will be hit hardest again by the snow. Hopefully this will be the last major snowfall for a few weeks at least, if the Gospel According To Dan Corbett is to be believed.
