"Uh'll be back." - Another Terminator for Arnie

thread title drives me nuts . . . comes across as 'you'll be back' not 'I'll be back'
should be 'Ah'll be back.'

Jim Cameron turned a hard "R", Hard sci-fi film and turned it into a family movie.

Yeah T2 might be a bit more mainstream than the first one, but it still strikes me as being pretty dark and hard-edged for a summer movie. As in the first one, the threat of a looming nuclear apocalypse still hangs heavily over the entire story, you've got a much darker and more violent Sarah Conner at the heart of it (who wants to murder someone for something he hasn't even done yet), and the T-1000 is perhaps even more nasty and ruthless than the first Terminator.

In my mind, all that stuff easily balances out the few little "Uncle Bob" moments fans always like to complain about.

(Feeling lazy so I just posted descriptions) :p

I'm pretty burned out on The Terminator at this point

I loves me some Arnie action, but he is way out of shape for the role. Stallone never quite let himself go the way Arnie has, so I can buy him in an action role nowadays, though I'm not completely dismissing the possibility that Arnie can get back into shape for such a role.

All that said, the kid in me would like to see Arnie in some capacity through one more romp in the Terminator-verse. I think T4 had some really good ideas, but none of them were executed in a particularly interesting way. I mean, a giant Terminator with bike-Terminators that roll out of its legs? That's awesomeness. The idea of a Terminator/human hybrid thingie, also cool. Yet for all its visual and conceptual appeal, I never felt particularly excited during the film. I would hope a T5 would be able to do this.

I would have been more exited to see the Hunter Killer Tank or that never before seen Hunter Killer Spider, instead I got a Transformer-ish something.

I don't think he looks all that different now from how he looked in T3, which I thought was acceptable enough for a Terminator movie. Obviously he'd still have to bulk up and lose some weight, but I'm sure he's capable of it.

The Terminator franchise suffered the same kind of death that Star Trek did. Lackluster movie with no vigor, and concurrent television series that tried to be its own thing yet failed just the basics. It actually surprises me how much they have in common.

It stands to reason that it could be revived in the same way Star Trek has been, although Terminator shouldn't be a "fun" movie. If it were to make it back, it needs a reboot clearing continuity because everything after the first movie didn't really make any sense. That would mean no Arnold.

Arnold has the right age to play King Conan. I think that would be pretty awesome.

True, I should blame the idiot who wrote in all of those sappy bonding moments between him and the Terminator.

But that was kind of the point, wasn't it?
What, to make the movie suck?

Having John Connor bond with a killer machine, having the machine become more human and a father figure while his mother is the one that turns into a cold-blooded Terminator.

Which I thought was a horrible plot development. But I hated the idea of a good terminator from the very beginning.

Terminator 2 with Arnold AGAIN playing the same bad Terminator, wouldn't that have been really lame?

Better than the cutesy treacle they gave us.

So you wanted a carbon copy, because that's what it would have been.

Except for the ending, T3 is a copy of T2, so I know what I'm talking about.
