Ugliest Starships!

Thanks! That helps my understanding. The original was taken from what people liked and disliked. The D was taken from design ideas that I disagree and/or dislike. Makes sense that I didn't like it!

I like the Enterprise-E... its design came after the Borg encounter, when StarFleet changed from diplomacy/exploration to more combat-readiness. Let's face it... the D is artistic (read: diplomatic) while the E is almost stealth-like (read: battle-ready).
Opinions are like belly buttons... some are in... some are out... but everybody's got one! :vulcan:

You make a decent argument for the E-E's design. I can see how a squat ship may offer a smaller sensor profile, or something of the futuristic equivalent. Maybe even the silly black colour patterns have a reason.

But do you like it from a practical point of view, or because of any aesthetic qualities?

The poster was seeking everyone's opinion, was he not?
To that I can only ask this: Did you read any of my 5 previous posts to this thread before asking the question?
IMHO I have given more than enough opinion. :vulcan: A couple haters think I've given too much opinion on this board. :guffaw:

For me there are three really ugly ships,

The Ambassador Class

The Daedalus

The Sovereign Class

They are all extremely ugly, although i can excuse the Daedalus as it was an early design.

The Cardassian Keldor-Class warships looks like a cobbled together excuse for a Warship. You would expect Cardassian designs to look sleek and stealth-like almost like Klingon ships. Infact It should be the Klingons that have big, ugly but powerful Warships, not hit and run ships like Bird's of Prey.

the ent 'b' must rank as one of the ugliest, the excelsior was fine until they added the extensions to the saucer and the stabilizer things to the hull.
never liked the one that separated the Prometheus. that's one horrible ship
non starfleet would have to be the borg ship from decent oh and the romulan scout from tng never liked that much either

I dislike both the 1701 and 1701A. Both ugly.

The 1701-D was by far the most attractive imo, although the saucer did appear a little too wide from above. E-D saucer is still nicer than the earlier circular ones, and the elongated saucer on the 1701E.

The use of blue leds along the E-D nacelles was rather visionary, as 20 years later technology is now rife with blue leds. Obviously the 24th century has a pimp-my-starship garage... I can just imagine it... :)

Xzibit: We're going to take out these side panels on the secondary hull and fit custom fibre-glass mouldings. We'll strip out the main cargo bay and install two megawatt amplifiers, wired up to two huge megawatt subwoofers - one below the captain's chair on the bridge, and one below Commander Riker's bed. Then we'll put these 20ft video screens at the ends of the nacelles...

I actually quite like Voyager - I think it's a nice looking ship, myself.

But I read once on this board that it looks like a giant flying toilet seat, and I could never get that out of my mind.

I mean, as much as I personally like the ship, it kinda DOES look like a toilet seat.

Never cared much for the Constellation, Yeager, or Federation classes. Not too much else that bothers me.

the Voyager.

the thing as as graceful as a tuba

it looks short and bloated, completely non sleek.
I cant find the words for it, but its like the ship version of Waterworld.
bloated and poorly thought out.

^Those are foul!

To me the Daedalus Class is absolutely the foulest thing ever built by Starfleet.

those are horrible, and should only be used as ships that explode from now on.

on the otherhand I like the look of the Ent D

another style of ship i dislike are the Cardassian ships. Galor, maybe?
They are big long bulky blocks and brown...but its kind of what I would think a space ship would look like. Why would they need to be sleek and artistic?
to me these look realistic.

the other one I find realistic are the Andorian ships in Enterprise, but I really like those.
I also like Romulan War Birds, but what a goofy design for practicallity, you would be better off just transporting around that ship.

Top 3 uglyness factor......

1. Galaxy class
2. Steamrunner class
3. NX class

Horrible ships, not visually appealing.

The original Enterprise by far IMHO is the ugliest, the engineering section looked like it had anorexia while the saucer seemed to have a series of warts overlapping each other.

E-D just MIGHT have looked okay if it had much longer nacelles and a much smaller saucer (more like Probert's earliest sketches, and also more like the e-c.)

As is, it is just awful. I don't know if it is the worst, but it must be way ahead of whatever is in second place. Nouveau arcing lines are fine, but they are like cake icing on a turd when you apply them to this misshapen disaster.

I never liked the Oberth-class. The shaping of the upper section looked awkward and the whole ship looked like it was designed to be canon fodder.

I'm probably going to get slaughtered for this, but i absolutely hate the sovereign, its just plain ugly, i detest it.
