A new WIP image...

So...what exactly changed between that picture and the one before it? I think I'm missing something, lol...

Melak finally figured out how to reconcile the area where the aft section raises up from the saucer, thanks to some tips from Tallguy.

hey, figured I'd pay you guys a visit here too. Got another update; hope you are not mad that the corners are staying rather sharp :p

BolianAdmiral, this Surya class starship that you're working on. If it helps, I saw something similar to it at the USS Tamerlane website. They have links from there to a fan fic called Star Trek: Surya. Maybe that'll help, I don't know but I like what I see so far.

:techman:

Nice modelling work!

Although given BA's preference for TOS designs to be made up of simplistic shapes, I'm surprised he's going for the strut design that's angled seven different ways. I would just give it straight struts like on the Enterprise...

I like the detail of the Pilot-era bridge; will it look Pilot-ish on the interior, too? I've always liked the Pilot bridges, especially "The Cage/The Menagerie." I also like the fact that you guys got rid of the rectangle shape on top of the ship - I was going to complain about that, but now I don't have to!

It was a dangerous procedure, and it didn't go quite as planned - but in the end it took care of the box just fine:

And the pylons aren't actually that complex:

LOL!! I love the explosion pic.

And wait a minute...are those nacelles glowing blue in a manner totally inconsistent and anachronistic with TOS warp drive technology?!?

The warp pylons are angled like that on the orthos for the Surya-Class. If I went with straight pylons, it would be the Coventry-Class, and plus would look a bit TOO simple, IMO. I like the way they look like this.

I also prefer the pilot-era Bridge module, and plus, that was the version on the orthos. I didn't want to use the "standard" TOS Bridge module, because almost every fanon TOS ship and 3D modeler uses it.

The orthos of the Surya-Class all show that box structure on the top aft... personally, I didn't like how it turned out, because it made the ship look too busy. The little "spine" part that connects with the impulse engines is actually taken from the Coventry-Class, but I think it works to make the hull look less complicated.

I am starting to see why modelers don't tackle this ship often, if at all... as a smaller ship, it is very difficult to strike a balance in the details between what will look good, while still keeping the ship looking clean and simple, and not overly-complex. It's a delicate balance.

Nah you're hallucinating, see?

Good - I'd BETTER be!! Nice work, Melak.

BA - I like the "spine" thing better, too. I don't think you need to beat yourself up too much over details that make one ship into a totally different variant - Surya or Coventry or whatever - they're all just TOS Mirandas, and since they aren't canon anyways, you can disregard whatever fanon details you'd like and just blaze your own fanon trail, as it were. :)

I like how it's coming along!

Hey, NICE!! I love to see newly-designed TOS displays that are done in the proper TOS style. :D

Although you forgot to put the little extention on the back of the saucer...
