Star Trek New Voyages: Phase II is an award-winning fan-film series that released 11 episodes and 5 vignettes continuing the original series into a forth season. Due to the release of the CBS Fan-Film guidelines, production of new episodes has ceased and the studios have been turned into a licensed Original Series Set Tour open to the public. www.startrektour.com

All New Voyages operations in the USA have been closed down and the existing episodes are now being looked after by Star Trek New Voyages: Phase II, International which is an independent site based in Cologne, Germany that runs an extensive YouTube channel and website in English, French, German and Spanish with subtitles for all episodes in many languages.

As it is no longer possible to make fan-films, we are now releasing a series of five novelette eBooks that are directly intertwined with the events depicted in the fan-film episodes. These eBooks were originally written in 2014 and only had a very limited release back then. Although these stories were not made by the official New Voyages team, the author Glenn E. Smith was a member of the production team that helped to make the fan-film episodes.

We have now released the first two episodes, free of charge, with the remaining three to be released in monthly intervals in five different eBook formats : Mobi (Kindle), ePub, PDF, LRF (Sony) and PDB (Palm).
Do not look for them on the Amazon Kindle platform, as they stipulate a minimum charge of $0.99 and we are only permitted to release them for free. They can be downloaded directly from our website:
www.stnv.de/novels

If more can be written and released depends on CBS, as we are being very cautious about not releasing any new materials that were created after the release of the Fan-Film guidelines, due to the fact that the team used to make fan-films and are now Star Trek licence holders for the tour and need to ensure nothing is done to endanger that. Although eBooks should not actually be affected by the guidelines, we are erring on the side of caution.

This series is written by Glenn E. Smith and takes part between episodes of the fan-film series, adding new details, story-lines and background to the Star Trek universe as seen in the award-winning “Star Trek New Voyages/Phase-II” fan-film series!

Here is a brief summary of the stories released so far:

stp2.01.Friends.and.Foes.Cover.v5.png

Novelette #1: “Friends and Foes” takes place several weeks after the live-action episode “Blood and Fire” and shortly before the live-action episode “Enemy: Starfleet.”
Captain Kirk is forced to work with a personal enemy from his past while confronting a much more dangerous enemy in the present, all while making first contact with a previously unknown and potentially hostile alien race.

Star-Trek-Phase-2-True-To-His-Oath-2_l49y461d.png

Novelette #2: "True To His Oath" is a short story based on a concept developed by Charles Root (who played Scotty in the series) and used with permission. The events take place after the live-action episode “Enemy: Starfleet” and before the live-action episode “The Child.”
Recently promoted, Scotty meets up with an old flame and tells the story of how that promotion came to be.

Both stories can now be downloaded free at http://www.stnv.de/novels in the following popular eBook formats!
Mobi (Kindle)
ePub (Nook, Kobo, Sony reader and tablets)
PDF (Adobe Portable Document Format)
LRF (Older Sony Readers)
PDP (Older Palm Devices)

Part three will be released on January 31.

All filmed episodes and background information, behind the scenes material can be found on that website, too. The website has also just had a face-lift so that it works on anything from a smartphone to a Full-HD screen, www.stnv.de

I believe Amazon let you release for free either by special arrangement, or by price matching to other sites selling the books for free. I have never tried it though.

If this is in the wrong section, please move it. As this is literature in eBook form, I thought this might be the right place.

We enquired about releasing for free on Amazon, but the problem is that you first have to release it for $0.99 and wait until Amazon corrects the price and we cannot be seen charging for this even for a short time.

Ironic as the totally unauthorised Borg novel is still sitting being sold in the kindle store after almost a year now.

Then we should summon @trampledamage so that she can decide.

From Wikipedia - just short stories, nothing substantial!:

Jeschonek's credits include Star Trek fiction published by Pocket Books[8] and Doctor Who fiction from Big Finish. Jeschonek's work appeared in three volumes of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, winning the grand prize in Volume VI.[9] He is one of a select few writers who have been invited to write stories in Peter David's Star Trek: New Frontier universe.[10] His story, "Oil and Water," appeared in Star Trek: New Frontier: No Limits.

Star Trek fiction
  • "Whatever You Do, Don't Read This Story" in Star Trek: Strange New Worlds Volume III, Pocket Books (2000). (Third Prize Winner.)
  • "The Shoulders of Giants" in Star Trek: Strange New Worlds Volume V, Pocket Books (2002).
  • "Our Million-Year Mission" in Star Trek: Strange New Worlds Volume VI, Pocket Books (2003). (Grand Prize Winner.)

  • "The Cleanup" in Star Trek: Corps of Engineers: Out of the Cocoon, Pocket Books (2010).
Doctor Who[edit]
But listening to the audio extract from Sticks & Stones it sounds like a TOS novel with the names all changed....

Due to the fact that James Cawley's team are now running a CBS licenced Star Trek Tour, we have to be very careful to keep to the rules and that means we cannot be seen to be charging for anything, even for a short time. Our Kindle eBooks can be downloaded for free directly from our website and we give full instructions as to how to get them onto your Kindle.

This is explained in the eBooks themselves: "This work is a work of fan fiction and is made freely available to everyone at no cost. It was originally released in 2014 by the author and is not an official work of New Voyages: Phase II." and in greater detail in our own news article about the eBooks as follows:

Quote from http://www.stnv.de/en/news-novels.php
"All New Voyages operations in the USA (Retro Film Studios) have been closed down and the existing episodes are now being looked after by "New Voyages: Phase II, International" (previously known as the UK+Germany mirror) which is an independent site based in Cologne, Germany that runs an extensive YouTube channel and website in English, French, German and Spanish with subtitles for all episodes in many languages.

I hope this better explains this issue.

What have the actors said about the use of their images to promote the project?

I find nothing interesting in fan fiction of fan fiction.

True, but essentially it just TOS fan fiction since were are actually not watching it, It's just Kirk and Co doing their thing. The only thing that connects it really is the cover art work.

Yes this is why I find it strange; why make it Phase II branded at all? A copy of a copy....

Would it be possible to finally release the unfinished PII/New Voyages episodes in a Fotonovel style format??

That would be really cool if you could.

This was written by someone who was directly involved with the production and wanted to add to the filmed stories, filling in the gaps between episodes. A perfectly legitimate reason. It is a labor of love for the fans of New Voyages and is totally free. If you are not a fan of our episodes, it is not for you. If you love our episodes, these add more substance to the stories and give you additional adventures. I find them to be very well written (so far, I have not finished reading them myself).

Still, how do James Cawley and the other actors whose likenesses are being used feel about it?
