Twentieth Anniversary DS9 Book by DRG III

Yeah, she did some really good stuff. I would love to see her rotate in with DRG III on DS9 or Kirsten Beyer on VGR.

Also, what has me a bit split, is what I'd like to see in this novel.
Part of me really wants a novel dealing with the 4 year gap. But, the new situation as of RtD also has me wanting more! Not sure what I'd want really.

I really loved her work in Balance of Nature, the Nasat homeworld was no mean feat of world building in such a short amount of space. I think she'd do well on Voyager or Titan, although I also liked how she handled DS9 in Gamma #2.

I'll just say regardless of the author it is great to have DS9 coming out on a regular basis again.

I'm still hoping KRAD gets to come back sometime soon...:klingon:

I spoke to him at Shore Leave, and he indicated he was focusing more on his original fiction novels as opposed to tie in novels. I too hope he comes back..

Yeah, a Klingons/Kinshaya TP novel by KRAD has been on my wish list since A Singular Destiny.

I think there may be a case for giving a single author overall responsibility for a title for a specified term whereby they write the majority of novels and plan out arcs, but with opportunity for other authors to contribute novels to the series.

I.e. 'O.K. Greg, the plan is for you to do 5 TOS's over the next 5 years and can co-ordinate another 5 with other authors to fit in with yours.'.

Can we just assign writers as follow:

mack TNG
Beyer VGR
Swallow\Bennett Titan
DRG3 DS9.
There done. No other authors need apply.

As awesome as these writers are, my $0.02 is that I don't care for that approach. It works for a series with a particular style (New Frontier, and even that got stale after a while) or a limited series like Vanguard. But some series really benefit from having different voices and styles in the mix. TNG, DS9, and TTN come to mind. Again, I don't mind that DRGIII is writing the 20th anniversary book, and I'm definitely buying it, but I would like to see the series open up again to other authors.
While I tend to agree with this, I daresay that what Kirsten is doing with Voyager is beyond awesome. I'm eagerly awaiting the latest novel to arrive so I can dig into it wholeheartedly.

That said, I do believe that with the right editor managing a series, various authors can work considerable magic. Look at the coolness that was Star Trek: Vanguard. I totally loved that series and I'm not really into the Original Series all that much. I'd love to see Christopher, David, James, Kirsten, Michael, Keith, Peter and DRGIII all working on the Typhon Pact. It would be totally intense! I would be waiting each month for the books to download on my iPad...

Awesome news indeed when it's finalized. As for preferred writer assignments:

Christopher/Greg Cox= TOS
DRGIII=DS9
Kristen Bryer =Voyager
David Mack = The Next Generation
Is there no love for Enterprise or New Frontier or do we automatically assume that only Peter David can tackle Captain Calhoun and his crew? I love seeing the rare instances were Mac shows up (like in the Destiny novel; however brief that was).

I posted about authors I'd love to see tackle the Typhon Pact series and forgot about Greg Cox. I fell in love with his writing when he did the Next Generation trilogy dealing with the Q Continuum some time ago, so please forgive that omission.

I'd give a whole paycheck to see what Christopher or Greg could do with the Enterprise relaunch. Both are amazing writers and would absolutely knock anything with Archer and his crew out of the ballpark! Here's to hoping to one day seeing that!

Variety can go hang ! I'm more than happy for Kirsten M F Beyer to be writing Voyager (I was never very fond of the show or novels before she took over) and I feel that DRGIII is certainly THE DS9 author for now.

I realise both will move on eventually, through either a wish to do other things or a simple running out of steam on one title, and they will know when it's time to go. Leave 'em be while they're on a roll...

I am in 110% agrement with you about DRGIII being THE DS9 Author. One of the first novels of his that I read was "Crucible: Mccoy - Provenance of Shadows". That is one of the few books I have read in my lifetime that brought me to honest tears. Outside of it being a truly great "Trek" book, it is an outstanding literary accomplishment. And, on top of that, Plagues of Night and Raise the Dawn were outstanding reads in their own right. I would be perfectly happy for DRGIII to go on writing DS9 into the near future.

As for the Ascendants, yes it would be cool to see what happened with all that, how Kira became a Vedek and whatnot. Hell, they could handle that with a series of orb experiences within the larger context of a going-forward story of the New DS9, etc.

OK, I will quit blabbing. Excited about the series going forward.:bolian:

As much as I had been waiting for the Ascendants story to finally play out (after a lot of build-up), I've resigned myself to the fact that the ship has sailed. It's pretty clear that DS9 is charting a new direction, and I don't think looking backwards at this point is feasible.

Although I haven't read the Romulan War series, most fans were disappointed with it. Same seems to go for New Frontier, a lot of people (myself included) left that series. It still has it's fans, but perhaps not enough anymore.

With the general level of chaos over in New Frontier you'd think the Typhon Pact would be interested. Why not do a NF Pact book without Peter David looking at the Pact getting involved out there?

I'm extremely excited to have DRGIII writing the main anniversary title for DS9, but I hope it's not the only thing planned to celebrate 20 years. DRGIII is perfect to write the novel that follows his Typhon Pact arc, but why not bring back Jarman or Perry for an additional novel that goes back and follows up on the Ascendent's plot, or heck even invite Marco himself to write or collaborate on the story he tried to set in motion years ago? Also I think it would be awesome if they gave us an anthology along the lines of "Prophecy and Change" that primarily takes place during the large gap in the timeline and gives a bunch of different authors the chance to play in that sandbox again.

Just my 2 cents on what I'd like to see.
