Tuvix Episode Revisited

And Neelix, since he could draw on Tuvok's long friendship with Janeway, would have understood that she wouldn't just throw him unceremoniously off the ship.

I guess we're supposed to assume that most of their memories as Tuvix were lost upon separation.

I thought they did retain their memories as Tuvix. The scene with both of them sitting on the sickbay bed would seem to bear this out.

At the very least, I would think that - given how different Tuvok and Neelix are - they would be grateful for being separated again. The thought of being combined probably would make BOTH of them sick.

Considering how poorly he reacted to be offered the opportunity to impregnate his own girlfriend, and that they lived in separate rooms, I have a theory that Kes and Neelix never got past first base.

And that's what they got from each other.

Neelix got the drive to round third base, and Tuvok got permission to ignore his wife.

We found out in Warlord that Tuvok was in Love with Kes, but a good husband like Tuvok would never go astray.

Did Tuvix have two dix?

If they'd remembered it then perhaps they would have developed a newfound appreciation for each other.

What I don't get is why when they are ready to have kids the Ocampa Females become all disgusting, like whatever gooey thing was on her hands!! Yuck!!

But they can't run when they are fertile.

In a civilized world that's not a thing.

But back when they were cavemen, it sounds like how they perpetuated. Infertile woman could run away, and fertile women could not.

The only way that the Ocampan life cycle works is that if men are fertile from 1 to nine, and they are expected to breed with a different woman each mating cycle or several woman each mating cycle. Also there would have to be a lot more women than men, that 8 generations of men were necessary to fertilize 1 generation of women (per year) without a lot of slap fights.

We can't assume that Ocampan reproduction as we see it is how it evolved. That "one kid per woman" thing would have erased the species very quickly. As in "30 million* to 1 individual in one century" quickly, and that assumes 100% fertility, 100% survival, and 50-50 gender balance.

Something must have happened to the species to make them reproduce so little.

*33,554,432, or 2^25 to be precise.

Yeah, I know exactly what happened to them, they got a writer that can't count.

It's a common theme, I'm afraid. The could have cleared half a dozen major inconsistencies with a minute or so of dialogue, and they didn't bother. Clearly, they thought we were too dumb to notice, or too clueless to care.

It would be super hilarious if Janeway found out that in some other timeline, Tuvix helped perfect the quantum slipstream drive just a month or two after his "birth", allowing Voyager to get home in under a day, with everyone aboard safe and sound.

Yeah, right after their arrival, the powers that be, whatever they are, decide to split Tuvix, while awarding him a posthumous medal. This is Star Trek after all the least things make sense the better.

It would be interesting to watch a court case with Tuvix defending his right to exist in front of a proper Starfleet tribunal. I think he would probably win, though.

On the merits sure.

But Janeway said that she knew enough Admirals, closely, to rig a court martial.

A bribe and greasy handshake with one of her father's friends, and Tuvix is dead again.

Given the number of dirty admirals we've seen, I'm not sure you're wrong.

That's why I like my Tuvix Escapes scenario better.
