I decided to start watching this as I enjoy almost all Gundam and have never watched Turn A.
Within the first 5 minutes I decided to stop watching the 1st episode so that I could read up on it which is extremely unusual. I tend to give things a good chance to develop. (3 episodes is the usual minimum mark)
I read the basic synopsis, some reviews and opinion on message boards. It seems like 1% of people utterly despise this series and I'm most probably going to be firmly in this camp.
The level of sheer aggression with no substance towards people who hold a negative opinion regarding Turn A leaves me kind of bemused, a person states their reasons for not liking it and the retorts are essentially, "Haha, I was prepared to be angry but I'm just going to laugh at you, doo doo head!"
There are claims that the music is amazing and some of the best Gundam theme music in existence... I've listened to the opening and endings and they're pretty bad. I don't like Jazz but Thunderbolt knocks it out of the park in comparison, it's blessed with a considerably higher quality musical score backing up the series.
For 1999 the artwork seems to be mediocre or even poor at best, the music is bad, the story and motivations seem to be flimsy if not outright ridiculous, the popular consensus amongst all viewers is that the mobile suits are awfully designed, it's a "less mobile suit focused animation" and that's apparently a good thing in a mobile suit animated series? It also goes 50 episodes deep which is quite the significant investment of time.
I'm utterly amazed at how considerably large the divide is between a vast majority love and extreme minority hate, it's jarring when you come across this type of thing because it all feels so utterly insane.
