TUC: Collectors Edition Question

Akira Class

Fleet Captain
Fleet Captain
They've got various Collector's Editions of the Trek movies on sale at Wal-Mart for $7.50. I picked up TUC and popped it in last night.

Did they add footage since the original DVD release? I would swear that when Spock is doing his mind meld mojo and is naming the conspirators, that I had never seen the flashes of the conspirator's faces before. That seems very new to me. Or am I just crazy?

I don't have the collectors edition, but there definitely were no flashbacks to the faces of the conspirators on the earlier DVD or theatrical release.

Thanks Kegek. I wonder if they added anything else. It has been so long since I have seen it. The scene in the corridors of Quo'nos One just after Brigadier Kurla tells Kirk and McCoy "Come with me" and just before they enter Gorkon's conference room seems new as well.

lol I picked this up yesterday too! I discovered the collectors series on accident.

I was wondering the exact same thing Akira, I dont remember the flashback sequence during the meld either. But I thought it worked well to remind the casual viewer which ones were which.

This is the first time I watched TUC in a ver long time and I honestly dont know what the bad rap is on it. I really enjoyed the movie, it had an epic feel to it and I think if it had been made in more modern times it would have found much more acceptance.

There was also some good non-forced humor through out the entire movie.

Also id like to know who played Martia, she was fine as hell! (In her almost human form)

That was and is an excellent movie, IMHO...

Agreed PW. It was the second one I saw in the theater, and the only one I've seen multiple times in the theater. Four times in all...

As to the topic, as far as I'm aware, the only changes to the CE of TUC was the afore mentioned flashback visuals during the Mind meld/rape scene, and an added close up of McCoy on the bridge. That's it as far as I know.

They added the flashbacks, but took away the Romulan Embassador Noncluss' name. He's just referred to as "Romulan Embassador" in this SE. The SE also has additional scenes that were'nt in the theatrical cut, most of which have been on the home video version for years.

Do you know which scenes were added that were not on the home video version?

aother than the "flashback" shots and a couple of random reaction shots, I am not really sure..I have at least three different versions of this on video.

Well, the only added scene from home video was Rene Auberjonois as Colonel West telling the President about his rescue plan.

Interesting that they cut out Nanclus' name. A pity, really, it diminishes the already tenuous role of the Romulans in the film even more. The use of flashbacks makes sense, though - the audience may not immediately know who the hell, say, Admiral Cartwright is.

I would swear that the corridor shot with Kirk and McCoy on the Klingon Battle Cruiser was new to this version. I don't have any older versions of the movie to compare it with, though.

Yeah, they restored that when they restored Col. West's aforementioned scene, because....

spoiler space....

he was the assassin, in a Klingon disguise.

Say it with me now...

Col. West: "...and I would have gotten away with it if it hadn't been for those meddling kids and their dog."

It's not.

theres some extra scenes with the torpedo room if i recall. Personally I hated the fact they added the flashbacks.

I'd trust an audience to know characters that have already been introduced by name without rubbining it in their faces.

He couldn't say it 'cause he was dead...

The additions to the first VHS/DVD that where not in the thetrical release are:

The Colonel West scene.
The scene in the torpedo room with Spock, Scotty and Valeris.
The "unmasking the fake Klingong" scene.

The differences on the SE DVD are:

The scene right before Scotty discoveres the magnetic boots is cut differently.
The flashbacks during the mind meld have been added.
Some reaction shots in the following conversation with Valeris on the bridge are different.

That's all I can come up with at the moment. I think I've never noticed any other differences.
