It's alright continuity wise in the first 3 seasons however many of the details in the stories contradict themselves that's why I recommend watching it in no particular order. The show does some excellent stand alones so if newbies are able to get into those without getting bogged down with too many details they should be alright.

For instance episodes like Counterpoint and Drone provide all you need to know to understand the story issues at hand. Counterpoint reminds you of the ship being stuck out in the DQ through Kashyk and in Drone we learn about Seven and the borg through One's questioning of the events.

Actually, the character was originally concieved as a man who would spend ten or so episodes loosing his Borg identity. Once he lost as many Borg implants as he could, we would be left with a disfigured man. It was UPN that demanded it be a sexy babe in a catsuit and for the transformation to last a single episode.

I would suggest watching Lineage. An excellent, excellent episode IMHO and interesting food for thought, especially for the science type. The science aspect of this episode is pretty legit: Do we genetically engineer our child so that she doesn't have to suffer as B'Elanna did or do we let her grow up naturally.

Whatever you do make sure she never sees Threshold.

Other than that I would suggest:

Tuvix - Excellent questions of ethics and unlike many episodes in Trek no answer was the correct answer. Very well done.

Futures End 1 & 2 - (IMHO) I thought this was a really good example of a time paradox Braxton causes the event he was supposed to stop and the pure gold line of "Totalitory Cardassian Authoritarian" or something close to that effect.
Plus its an over all fun episode, who doesnt seen Earth as it was in the 90's?

If she doesnt know much about Trek then id reccomend "year of Hell" to demonstrate how the reset button works.

Like someone else said stay away from anomoly of the week episodes.

^^^ I liked Threshold...but NO - don't show anyone that at first. It's an acquired taste, best downed with whiskey

Future's End is kinda lame in my opinion. The bad guy has a LISPTH and the whole "goin' back in time to the late 20th century" has been done to death in TONS Of shows especially Trek.

I'd avoid showing certain really, really good shows (like Year of Hell, Scorpion and Equinox) at first because frankly if you watch them too soon without knowing the characters well enough you won't get the right kind of enjoyment out of them. They'll be entertaining in their own way but like in Scorpion she wouldn't really understand the Chakotay/Janeway conflict because this is her first exposure to it. Year of Hell would lose impact if the viewer has no idea why Janeway just won't turn back. Equinox loses a lot if you fail to see that Voyager has managed to survive moral-ly for years before encountering the shady Equinox crew.

So I strongly suggest staying away from episodes that strongly play off established character or plot lines. Usually single episodes aren't as bad in this area because huge changes to the show generally don't occur in any one episode. The two parters are where the major stuff tends to happen.

I would suggest "Future's End"..I had a friend of mine watch it(she HATES Trek with a passion and thinks that I'm weird cause I watch it..) and she actually enjoyed it! I told her that if she didn't like it, I would turn it off and never bring it up ever again. She actually sat through it and watched it with me! Then she said that I was getting her interested in this s**t! I told her, it's not s**t!!!! It's a great escape from everything.

"Riddles" was the first episode of VOY I ever watched. It certainly ccaught my attention, even if I later found that VOY as a whole wasn't nearly as entertaining.

I'd recommend anything that's Tuvok centric (Besides "Repression ), as well as "Death Wish" and "Jetrel" and "Year of Hell." All great episodes right there.

Rise, Nemesis, Year of Hell, Distant Origan, and Dreadnaught come to mind as some great character driven eps. They might be a good place to start.

Season 3, right smack dab in the middle of the equally bad "Darkling" and "Favorite Son". Tuvok, Neelix, and some really lame foreheads-of-the-week stuck in an elevator thingamajiggy to escape an asteroid bombardment.

Oh lord! That was almost as bad as Tuvok and the Tank Girl actress falling in love on that planet in the subspace bubble, was it?

Poor Tuvok. Great character, some awful eps!

Obviously, I gotta disagree with you on this one. This was the episode that really turned Neelix around. His whole character turned on it's axis in this one and became much more interesting.
