Trying out Match.com

I've decided to go ahead and pay the Match.com fee.....PlentyOfFish just wasn't as well-organized, and I don't want to sign up for more that are similarly lacking. And even if nothing comes of it, just reading all these profiles is kinda entertaining in its own right.

So who wants to go in on starting up a dating site with me? CheapLonelyTrekkies.com. By default, Holdfast has to be in on this so that we don't have to pay any residuals. :)

I was on a dating site a few years ago. I noticed a female profile that was using pictures of an actress. I notified the administrators, and rather than just admit there was a fake profile on there, they insisted that the profile was real, that she just happened to look a lot like said actress, and that they authenticate pictures of their members. So I promptly deleted my profile and left that site.

I met my wife on Match.com after being a member for three months and dating nothing but lying, crazy women before I met her. My wife was on for a total of 3 days before she responded to my email out of the 1800 (no, I'm not kidding) emails she got. Why did dhe respondto me and no one else? Because I was sincere and more importantly becauseshe's a teacher and she was impressed with my grammar and spelling (the funny part of that is that I was drunk when I wrote her. I had just ended an awful Match.com date and I got loaded and said 'fuck it' and started drunk emailing.).

I met my wife on Match.com in a similar way to how you met your wife except that I didn't go on a bunch of dates with Psycho women. She was the only woman I actually went on a date with.

Like your wife mine was flooded with emails and most of them were utterly horrible. She showed me a few after we started dating and I couldn't believe some of these guys thought this would get them a date. :wtf:

In the end she only responded to two of emails, one of them being mine obviously. We chatted for about three weeks and then went on our first date on June 23rd, 2004. We got married three years later on 07/07/07.

Charming.

So it was a last resort. Good for you.
No, it wasn't a last resort. It was an efficient alternative to the bar scene or dating someone I work with or having someone set me up.

I hear ya. I was still dating and meeting women at the time I met my wife but Match.com made it a lot easier.
You're situation and mine are almost identical. I don't think I ever had as much fun as I did reading the emails from the dirtbags that she got.

:guffaw:

The impression I get is these matchmaking sites got nothing but ugly chicks on them. I watch their commercials and all the women in them are either fat or plain looking and the guys they hooked up with look like psychos or losers.

I dated a bunch of chicks from Match for about six months...then when I had one more day left and didn't want to pay anymore I sent out a flurry of emails to any girl I could think of. It turns out I met my wife in that batch of last ditch emails!

There are a fair number of good-looking women on there. The problem is that most of them won't write back when you email them----either because they're taken at the profile is just left over, or because your email and/or profile wasn't good enough.

I've taken to sending out emails to anyone who looks remotely interesting. I've heard back from a couple.

That girl who winked at me the day after I joined I'm still chatting with pretty regularly. I've only seen her in person three times so far (first tea, then watched Ghost Rider at her place, then helped her walk her dogs at Great Falls park), because she's a student and this is her "home" area where she only spends intermittent time. Too early to tell what's going to happen there, but at the least she's a new friend for sure. We were supposed to have a Terminator marathon at my place, but that fell through at the last minute. It's on hold for later.

Not a whole lot else happening for now. I've sent out a few emails and gotten a couple of replies----both on Match and PlentyOfFish----but nothing else solid has developed from either yet. It could just be an off time of year for these things, I don't know.

The only thing I have ever seen offered on Plentyoffish.com, in my area, qualifies for the Freak Show of the Circus.
