True Blood has cemented itself as one of my favorite shows of all time. I had seen the first few episodes back in 2008, but lost interest. I watched season one over three days and then I watched ALL of season two today. The fact that nearly every episode ended in a cliffhanger practically forced me to go to the next episode immediately.

And let me say something... this show had some of the most beautiful women I've ever seen. Anna Paquin, Deborah Ann Woll, Anna Camp, Ashley Jones, Lizzy Caplan... the list goes on.

I've never watched a show that had so many well written characters that I absolutely hated with a passion either. Tara's mom, Hoyt's mom, Andy, and a couple of others wouldn't have survived more than about ten seconds in a room with me.

I'm really interested to see where season three is headed. I'm almost tempted to pick up the books to get kind of a feel for what's coming next. I'm guessing one of the plots is going to deal with trying to keep Jessica under control while the other one deals with Sookie trying to rescue Bill. I highly suspect Eric has taken him. I hope the Vampire Queen of Lousiana has a big role next season. she's annoying, but I think she could be a fun character.

I NEED more True Blood. Somebody help me out.

And you'd be wrong. Jessica does not exist in the books. The overall plot of each season is the overall plot of each book in the series (so next up will be Club Dead), but they take massive liberties ... sometimes nearly everything from an episode is straight out of the book. Other times, the only connection is the names of the characters. And at least one character is still alive in the series, but dead in the books.

There's also a pretty major character in the books that we have yet to see in the series. And I'm kind of doubting we'll ever see this former person. lol

The books are quick reads. Go to your local library, pick up "Dead Until Dark" and give it a try. If you like it, then go for the rest. If you don't like it, then at least you've given it a shot.

I'm still working my way through the first season. I like it for the MOST part, but I do wish the storytelling was tighter and more focused. Most episodes seem to meander quite a bit, with extraneous storylines and relationships that have little to do with the core characters and mythology.... and then suddenly something really cool and shocking will happen at the end to draw you back in. lol

I realize this is more of a drama than a typical genre show, but it's still pretty frustrating.

Although from what I'm hearing, the second season gets a lot better...

I had a similar experience, though over a few weeks rather than a day, finishing the second season just a few days ago. It's the best trashy show I have ever seen. I was doubtful I would like the setting, or most of the characters, when first I saw it, but the particular genius of the show is that you can easily loathe most of these characters (and how very much I do loathe Jason Stackhouse) and still can't wait to see what happens next. Plot wise, it has just the right combination of melodrama and self-ridicule to function as both satire and drama. I, too, want more... and I want Tara and Jessica to strip and start making out, dammit!

I've only recently started to watch this series and I'm definitely loving it. I rented the first season via Netflix (which was a slow and painful process to do with my one disc-at-a-time membership, since HBO only puts like two episodes on a disc! WTF?). Season two won't be out on DVD anytime soon, and I simply refused to wait that long. I had to resort to more... creative... measures to find and watch. I'm just over half-way through season 2 and I'm definitely hooked. I'm very sad to have to wait until next summer for season 3. And I don't even subscribe to HBO!

I find the show very interesting, but not to a level that I care.

It's like I start to care about what goes on to these characters and then it's like "ugh..." and stop care. The show is just not closed off enough in it's stories to make me care enough to watch it every week.

Alan Ball writes it, he wrote American Beauty and Six Feet Under, so he's a good writers, but I get the feeling he has no clue where he wants to go at all, not even a season ahead.

I really enjoyed the first season of the show. The mystery was exciting, the character development was fun to watch, and the premise of the show is one I've always enjoyed (being an avid World of Darkness roleplayer).

The second season, however, started to go downhill for me. Ignoring the abysmal Maryanne storyline that went on for about eight episodes too long, the writing and acting for many of the characters became more parody than sincere.

Jason Stackhouse is a prime example. In the original season he was a none-too-bright but believable guy who just happened to have a natural charm with women. His motivations were pretty straight forward and easy to understand. In the second season, however, he became some kind of weird comic relief along with Andy. A parody of all the worst traits of a redneck who also happened to be mildly retarded. And don't get me started on some of his dumb ass lines and insights. "Derr, Jesus was the first vampire!" Ugh.

I'm going to keep watching it and hope they stop turning everyone into a caricature of themselves.

That said, I do have to say that I certainly don't mind -- and instead greatly appreciate -- them veering away from the novels as far as the stories and character development goes. It's one of the best parts of the show for me.

I just saw the ep where we finally find out what Sam's deal is. He's my fave character, with Bill 2nd. And Im keeping my eye on Eric b/c, well he seems to have a buttload of fans & Im curious as to why. So far... he's ok.

Sam is definitely one of my favorite characters. The actor really has a natural charisma about him. I'm also a fan of Lafayette and Eric. I don't really care for Bill because he just comes off cheesy a lot -- moreso in the second season than the first -- and his accent grates on me. XD Sookie is starting to annoy me a bit, too, but I can tolerate that as long as I get to see more of her boobs. (Don't judge me.)

yeah I havent seen season 2 yet, so thanks for not spoiling. I also think its great how, b/c its HBO they can get away with Sam being naked when he shifts, instead of like on a show like Heroes where they have to have the characters shapeshift their clothes, which can be kinda lame.

as for Bill, I just think he's hot & I like his old fashioned-ness and yeah, he's hilariously cheesy- "I must leave with them Suhkeh...b/c I am a VAMPIYAH!"

I found that Sookie and Bill were the least interesting parts of season 2, but you mileage may vary when you see it.
