True Blood 1x2 - "The First Taste"

Running a little late tonight, due to major family drama. I'll be watching it in a few minutes, then be back to post my comments. Anyone else see it tonight?

Me and the hubby watched it last week and we really liked it so we watched it again this week.

So, a couple of things:

1. I love Bill! He's hot and seems to really care about Sookie.

2. I don't like Sookie's brother, Jason. He's weird and apparently stupid for challenging and/or throwing his weight around at a vampire.

3. Is that little dog Sam? That picture in his office, plus what she said about it being peaceful that she couldn't hear Bill's thoughts...the dog was there when she said that to Bill but she never said it to anyone else.

Anyways, great show IMO. I've always kind of had a thing for vampires and I'm still mourning Moonlight so this is somewhat filling a void. :bolian:

I loved it again. Nice to see Jane show up. I don't like her at all, she is exactly as I pictured from the books, completely clueless drunken moron.

Tara is much better in this episode, and Rene sticking up for Sook in the bar was pretty much made of awesome.

I cannot stand Arlene, and I think it's just going to get worse.

As for Jason ... He's no-good, and lives only to focus on one thing, his own sexual release. The world is his bedroom. Way too early to talk about the reasons behind that just yet. He's hot, no denying that, but he needs to keep his mouth SHUT.

Loved the cliffhanger ending, can't wait for next week. Seems like I recall somewhere Alan B saying every episode would end with a cliffhanger. Figures. lol

As for your #3 above, the dog and Sam ... well, who knows? lol

Edited to add ... Nice to see John Billingsley playing a human again. He's playing Mike Spencer, and that means we'll be seeing plenty of him through the season. Bwahahaha.

You don't leave someone tied to your bed for hours unless

A. You want to be charged with kidnapping. (assuming they would)
B. You want piss all over your bed. (which is almost definite.)

A - No one but Sookie would notice Jason was gone. He's the town whore, and everyone would assume he was "busy" ... just saying.

B - She could have planned for it. There are plastic sheet things you can put over the mattress but below the sheets for bedwetters.

I'm a little iffy on this show. Love Lafayette, Sam's cute, Bill has a ton of sex appeal. I even like Tara. But Anna Paquin is just... weird. Sookie's got no center. She's a mooney-eyed little girl in one scene, a mouthy backwoods redneck in the next, a prude who wears itty-bitty skirts and poses like she's in a fashion shoot any time she stops walking. Granted she's had some awful exposition scenes to get through, but still, I think she's lacking some gravity and she needs to find it.

Still the world is coming along - though I wish the actual show had more of the sensibility of the opening credits. Can't say I cared for the hissing vamps at the end - that just seemed cheesy. The overall plot is pretty good, so I'll be sticking around. Probably going to pick up some more of the books soon.

It seemed at odds with the rest of the show. The threat from the vampires is certainly there, but the menace was a bit more subtle; the car crash, the trailer "accident", the general tense atmosphere. That last scene was right out of those terrible low budget 90s "hip" vampire flicks that were once everywhere.

I like this show so far. I can't say I'm all in though. It feels like it carries equal potential to be a solid show with lots of depth and social commentary; or to go off the rails completely.

These threads need polls!

I think the vampires are supposed to be cheesy, just like the black girl is way over the top "sistah" and the brother is about as dumb as they come.

I said i wasn't going to follw this show.. but i kinda like it. Have to look into the novels maybe..

Pick up "Dead Until Dark" the first book in the series ... Your neighborhood library may even have a copy. Once you've read it, you'll know whether you want to continue with the rest of the books, or if they're just not right for you.

:) Thank you Omaha Star. You are quickly turning into my "go-to" guy when it comes to useful information.
