They did that in CONSTANTINE, too -- but in that movie they lampshaded it with a number of fake-out moments. (Oddly enough, there is a deleted scene where Angela and John do kiss.)

I was glad they didn't go full bore with the romance. It was enough that it was implied. Leaves them somewhere to go in the sequel.

I'm not sure I'd even call it a romance. I mean she's practically Sam's step sister after-all and given that she's not a biological entity, any infatuation she might have would be purely intellectual. I'm not saying she didn't care for Sam, clearly she did, just as she cared for Flynn, it's just that glands and hormones are a non-issue for her.

Mine you, if she had a crush on anyone, I'd say it was Jules Verne. ;)

^ Agreed. Yeah it was an unspoken romance but they definitely had romantic interest in one another if it wasn't overt. Maybe this was because it was a Disney movie and they didn't want to focus their story on the romance between Sam and Quorra. I liked the Jules Verne quote. Most of the theater didn't laugh for some reason but I did lol.

I don't know if I would go as far as to call Quorra's role sexist...it is clear that she is a stereotype in an sci-fi action flick but really I wasn't expecting her role to be any stronger or prominent than it was meant to be. Kind of a classic romantic interest/action hero role in my opinion. It is worthy to note that she and Sam did not kiss during the entire movie. The closest they come really is at the end of the film when she's riding on Sam's bike during the sun rise she kind of settles her head and mouth on the back of his neck. She simply is content. I wonder if that is a conscience decision on the part of the writers and director to not to have them kiss? It is something I found noticeably interesting.

No her role isn't sexist (apart from the oddity relating to her peril at the end). I agree that her part would have been interchangable with an actor with almost no alteration (and the moment of peril would have been just as odd because it served no purpose except to set up a rescue). What is sexist is the absence of any other women of note in either the real or virtual world compared to the number of men.

Good. The script for Tron: Legacy was one of the weakest elements of the film.

What an extraordinary thought!

The designs were updated very nicely indeed, as was some of the score. And being fond of the original Tron, I appreciated that very much. But where Tron was wonderfully fresh and original, Tron Legacy visually and sonically is just a remake. It has no originality at all. The script was what saved Tron Legacy from complete mediocrity.

The whole premise of the inside of a computer being like its own little world, complete with little inhabitants, is exactly parallel to the idea of the inside of the human body being its own little world, complete with little inhabitants. (And lasering someone in or out is equally nuts.) This sow's ear of a premise wasn't made into a silk purse by Tron's brilliant designs and score. Don't let a haze of nostalgia deceive you.

You do know there is no such thing as a new story ? Everything is just a new interpretation of older stories.

According to cinemablend Disney could be making an announcement on a sequel soon and with new writers.

Actually it looks like the "new writer" thing was just wishful thinking on the part of the article's writer (although obviously it would be a good idea).

Flynn, the lead hero of Tron, becoming the villain (as CLU,) and sacrificing himself to stop "himself," may have been an old story. (Or may not.) But it was a less commonly used old story than Tron's, which was basically, hero beats bad guy.

Actually, I would argue the story of Tron was: sidekick (Flynn) helps Hero (Tron) destroy the bad guy.

That said, I'm a little tired of the defense: there are no new stories. True. Then people should know how to tell them well. And it's about reinventing them or viewing them in new ways. It's a poor excuse to just say There are no new stories.

THAT said, I really liked Tron Legacy, and I hope the writers continue.
