What are "over the shoulder boulder holders"?:lol:

Breasts dear breasts she showed off a nice pair of forward photon tubes in that teal blue dress and I liked the boots !!!

Well technically OTSBH's are bras.

That's what I thought. That's what confused me.

Anybody know what episode this is from?

It's from Menage a Troi. That's one of my favourite outfits for Deanna. I think she looks lovely in that episode.

One of my favorite images...would love a large version to hang up. :)

For the record, what Admiral Riker told Captain Crusher was that he would put on that teal outfit and romp around the holodeck. What an image...

Yeah, and if you put her in a low cut dress to show off her breasts then maybe we should be Patrick Stewart in a shirt ripped down the front to show that awesome chest of his???

Sexism works both ways, guys.

She should've been put in uniform from the very beginning.

Hey, for a man in his seventies, he's buff. I would.

I did like what they seemed to be reaching for with the S1 grey suit. Something neutral when she's on duty. In my fantasy TNG, they made better variants of that look, and made her more of a powerful psychic, and developed the vocal accent some more. Then she could have babed it up for scenes in 10-forward and etc.

The space cheerleader skant is nice, but her hair is so awful in that outfit that it cancels out the awesome of the skirt and boots.
Hate to say it, but in the end I agree with Jellico.

It all depends on what Troi's role was supposed to be. Was she supposed to be a line officer in Starfleet, or a quasi-Starfleet civvie attached to the Enterprise? TNG seemed to vacillate on that one.

If she was supposed to simply be just another line officer, she should wear the Starfleet uniform. If she was supposed to be a civilian or some quasi-Starfleet position, that could open doors and make things more interesting. One thing STAR TREK consistently mishandled over the years was wardrobe for the main characters. It's too easy to see a given character wearing the same thing, episode after episode, without any changes or variations. It isn't just that Troi (and most of the other characters for that matter) never wore a spacesuit or utilities (why not?), it's that you'd think that an episode that focused in on a specific character or situation might provide an opportunity to show the character in a new light, possibly dressed differently than usual.

If Troi were a civilian, we should have seen her in 24th century business attire at least occasionally.

Even if Troi were pure Starfleet, her apparently unique status on the Enterprise should at least open the door to a special uniform.

Yet we see neither one. At that's a shame.

As the old saying goes: "An opportunity missed is an opportunity lost."

There was an episode where O'Brien points out to Ensign Ro that Troi carries the rank of Lt. Commander. I took that to mean she was an officer and not just a civilian. Plus she was on the bridge next to the Captain so obviously she was supposed to be pretty important. Also, she was eligible to take the bridge officer's exam or whatever it was called. I doubt they would let a civilian take it.

Roddenberry was known to be pretty sexist. Even Levar Burton has admitted this. So it's no surprise that he had Troi walking around in that outfit, which is kinda funny considering that Marina Sirtis would often describe herself as Gene and Majel's daughter. Really? Would a father let you dress like that? Notice how TNG had to wait until Gene was dead before letting Troi cover up. But I bet he would've been OK with Jeri Ryan and Jolene Blalock walking around in catsuits.

Exactly. Either put her in a uniform or make her a civilian. I wouldn't have been a fan of those outfits, so much, but at least we wouldn't have the idiocy of trying to take her seriously as a military officer wearing that stuff.

For the record, I voted for the FC uniform. Had she been a civilian, though, I would've gone for the teal dress; I think it had more class than the other outfits. The blue, shoulderless dress is not bad as eveningwear, though. (I wouldn't recommend it as a work outfit.)

Or an unapologetic male who liked women in sexy outfits.

Roddenberry stepped back from being TNG's showrunner during the first season. It was Berman who allowed Troi to get even sexier after that with the blue dress.

Berman certainly was.

^Marina says Gene decided that if she wasn't wearing uniform should wear unique outfit. But she's pretty candid that her outfits were 'eye candy' and she was dressed as show's sex appeal (esp season 2 when had lost Crosby and McFadden).

And the season 6 standard uniform her favorite. She's very very funny about her costumes and other things in her DragonCon 2010 Q&A (blistering about INS :) )

Factoid: They used a stunt-butt in the flying shots of "Night Terrors".

I posted this because I like saying the phrase "stunt butt".

I liked her in the standard duty uniform, but i also liked her in green dress(or was it blue?).

This is such a good question! For years I thought she had a blue and a green dress (not including the off the shoulder number she uses to flirt with Reg Barclay). I've soured the screencaps at Trekcore and I can't find anything other than the dress looking blue. Maybe it's one of those fabrics that looks different under different lights and on different screens? Or maybe I am just having a giant mis-remember.

I don't why it never occurred to me before, but I just realized that her hair was kind of similar to that of Elaine on "Seinfeld". Wacky early '90s hair! And just like Elaine in the later seasons of that show, Troi's hair was refined to make her look much less goofy (and much more pretty) when TNG went to feature films.
