Troi As Number One.

That said, I never understood why a ship's counselor spent so much time on the bridge. Didn't Troi have officer hours to see clients? If Picard needed her on the bridge to provide empathic insights about the odd alien, he could summon her.

Probably the same reason the most experienced and least expendable members of the crew were always the ones to visit alien planets, crawl into dangerous ducts, and so on, instead of having away team characters and so on: the TV producers wanted to focus on seven characters and keep them in the spotlight as much as possible.

Marina Sirtis as Data & Brent Spiner as the counselor...would be a different show...maybe better.

Spiner is good and would have more fun being a counselor...Sirtis would have made a great android...very cold and rigid.

:D

Interesting idea. I think Jonathan Frakes could probably have pulled off the character of Counselor Riker, but I don't if Marina Sirtis had the acting chops to be believable as first officer. Plus she really didn't have any kind of commanding presence about her. Now, if Gene Roddenberry had followed through with his original plan and cast Denise Crosby as Troi, then that may have worked. She would have made a far more convincing first officer.

I agree, a interesting idea, but I'm also happy with the cast the way they are.:)

Wow, one of those ideas that never occurred to me, but seeing it written down, it makes perfect sense.
