Trip & T'Pol: The Good That They Do

Not open for further replies.
I love the part where they ride the horse together! It's so cute! *sigh* Looks like I have to break out my tapes and watch some more Trip & T'Pol episodes. I haven't done that in a long time but I'm really in the mood right now. I even re-read my own fanfic at HoT recently. Lame, I know, but I had forgotten quite a lot of what I wrote so it was fun!

Okay, I have a question: I read The Good that Men Do, as I'm sure many of you have. I'm also sure you've discussed this, but I was wondering: what's next for the pair of them?

we really dont know.. the next book is koybushi maru and then romulan war trilogy but tpol does know he is alive and the bond seems intact

personally i would like to see them use the bond not just for trip and tpol to keep connected on a personal level but to communicate when trip is behind enemy lines

I always wanted them to do this in the series. I was just waiting for that to happen. I'd love to see that develop in the books, it has so much potential. I wonder what the "range" of the bond is? Anyway, I'm guessing the future books featuring the Romulans will allow our favorite couple to reunite and work together again.

this isnt really a spoiler
for the bond. the ranger has to be pretty long since trip was back in earth orbit on columbia when it really let itself be known. it almost seems the distance apart really triggered it getting stronger.
though there are limits due to tuvok losing contact with tpel.

Tothebridge I really liked the new pictures from Carpenter Street and North star.An about future Enterprise books
I look forward to seeing how the bond could be used between Trip and T'Pol they might be able to communicate important information with Trip being behind enenmy lines. There's also going to be a Three book miniseries about the Earth/Romulan wars in 2009. So it's going to be a long time to wait for the books to come out.
Galleywest it's nice to see you posting again. :)

Thanks! I don't know what came over me. :)

We'll have to wait a while for the books, but it's better to know that something is coming! I can live with that. After reading TGTMD I am confident that the writers can give us the kind of TnT story we deserve.

Glad you like the pics, Reanok. Similitude has some lovely ones as well -- still more to come.

galleywest, did you read the ENT novel Last Full Measure? The prologue and epilogue of that novel provide a bit of additional context for TGTMD and Trip's future. Opinions differ though on whether the implications are good or not-so-good for TnT.

Re: what's in store for T/T after TGTMD,

I suspect they may be separated for a large part of the War, especially if Trip is behind enemy lines. That's not all bad, though, since it potentially will give the writers (and T/T) a chance to explore characteristics of the bond. It already seems they can communicate, even with Trip behind enemy lines, but it doesn't seem they can use the bond in a proactive, deliberate manner. (Maybe the telepresence unit T'Pol enhanced can be helpful.)

Even if Trip is behind enemy lines for most of the War, I hope there's a way for him to somehow temporarily reunite with a few members of the crew, especially T'Pol -- maybe he can come out for a brief time or someone else (Malcolm and/or T'Pol) could go behind the lines as well. With a three-book trilogy, there should be some room for that type of development assuming the writers can find a plausible way to handle it. Along those lines, I also wonder if there will be a pon farr storyline of some sort for T'Pol that also affects Trip. The references to pon farr and the mind meld(in the T/T dream sequence) could be hints of something to come.

After the Romulan War trilogy, (assuming there could be more books), I'm very curious to see what types of stories emerge. TATV suggested that the ship was decommissionned and the crew for the most part were following separate paths (except for perhaps Travis and Malcolm), so I wonder if the books will take that approach as well. We have an idea of the general course Trip's life takes from Last Full Measure, but there is a lot of detail missing, which could be filled in with other books. And given the spy storyline, genetic enhancements and physical alterations, it seems the writers have some options and additional flexibility with Trip's storyline. Also, T'Pol's future wasn't really addressed in TATV, so the possibilities seem wide open there as well, in terms of how the writers could shape her future. So, if T'Pol wanted to drop out of the public eye for a certain time period (for personal reasons), seems like it would be possible. And if Trip continued in a spy role for a certain period, I'd love to see him and T'Pol team up on a mission or two and give T'Pol a chance to use some of those skills she picked up as a security operative. Also on my wish list :)... I'd like to see them have a chance at a committed relationship, even if it can't be a public one.

Wow, there are some great possibilities for the future of TnT in the books!
What I really want from the books is a chance for Trip and T'Pol to work together on a mission behind enemy lines. I'd also like Trip's friends to learn he is alive. I have a feeling that Trip and T'Pol end up together in the long run--him with an assumed identity. I'm looking forward to learning more about where his life goes after his "death" on the Enterprise. The precedent of Trip's record being altered also makes for a great new plot device. Trip's involvement in their missions from this point out can be used to explain why some of the most exciting (hopefully!) Starfleet missions are unknown in later centuries (ie in series set later than ENT).

I could definitely see the whole crew coming together for some kind of mission even after they've taken on new assignments. This was done to some degree with both the TOS and TNG crews for the movies. Even if what they actually do is a little different now, I can see them always considering themselves a team. In particular, Malcolm's role with his involvement in the secret service (or pre-Section 31) will bring a whole new dimension to the storyline.

Sorry to reply to my own message. Irony of ironies, though--just as I'm getting back into TnT, I get a bot from fanfiction.net. Someone read and reviewed one of my old TnT stories! How funny is that?

^^Was the review for one of your "Thin Man" stories? I really enjoyed that series -- it had the type of dynamic that would be fun to see between T/T on some type of mission during the book relaunch. Hmmm...maybe that review was one of those odd coincidences -- indicating that it's time for another story in your series. :)

Now, a few pictures from "Similitude" -- so much Trip/T'Pol/Sim in this episode -- where to start?

the neuropressure scene where they seem so couple-y and comfortable
Similitude_2_4web.jpg

T'Pol's expression when Archer tells her about Trip's condition
Similitude_1_4web.jpg

T'Pol's face when Sim says that the two most important things to him are in that room (i.e.,T'Pol and the engines)
Similitude_19_4web.jpg

the kiss (courtesy of boushh)
similitude_tt20web_4web.jpg

But one of my favorite sequences is the scene when Sim tells T'Pol about his (and Trip's) feelings for her.

Sim wants to know if there was ever anything between T'Pol and Trip
Similitude_3_4web.jpg

T'Pol says the answer is no if he's referring to a romantic relationship
Similitude_4_4web.jpg

Sim says the reason that he's asking is because T'Pol is all he thinks about
Similitude_5_4web.jpg

T'Pol's reaction
Similitude_6_4web.jpg

Sim says this isn't just some adolescent crush
Similitude_8_4web.jpg

T'Pol seems a bit stunned but her attention is fully captured now
Similitude_9_4web.jpg

Sim says that the way he feels is much more serious
Similitude_10_4web.jpg

And what's driving him crazy is that he doesn't know if the feelings are his or Trip's
Similitude_11_4web.jpg

T'Pol's eyes water and her voice cracks as she says that she can't answer that. Awww....
Similitude_13_4web.jpg

Sim says he didn't mean to make T'Pol uncomfortable.
Similitude_14_4web.jpg

T'Pol says she's not uncomfortable. (Denial, thy name is T'Pol. She may not be uncomfortable but she is definitely affected -- watery eyes, twitchy face, shaky voice.)
Similitude_15_4web.jpg

Sim says he just thought he should tell her while he had the chance. :(
Similitude_16_4web.jpg

T'Pol has been affected by Sim's confession and also has something new to ponder now re: her relationship with Trip.
Similitude_17_4web.jpg

Lovely scene, wonderfully performed.

Edited to add in boushh's cap

*sigh* I forgot what a great episode that was. I always kinda wondered what would have happened if Sim had survived. I have no doubt he would have just gone for it with T'Pol--I wonder how Trip would have felt about that? :D

Anyway, Jolene does a great job conveying the struggle she's having between her newly discovered emotions and her Vulcan emotional supression. You really see the cracks in the surface of her calm begin to show here. In hindsight, I think this was the episode where it became clear that her use of trellium was well beyond "experimental."

Yes, it was a review of The Thin Man Beams Aboard. Thanks, I'm glad you liked it! :) If I could come up with another good plot I would write another one. I was never 100% satisfied with Thin Man Overboard. I think that could have been better. So I'd hate to go into it without a plot I just loved. It would most certainly be set before Trip's *cough* death. *cough*

there is a thread else where called how to kill koss.

 That was me ! Small world. I sure hope the muse catches you again sometime soon.

Also, those caps are gorgeous. :)

In answer to Tothebridege's comments about Future Enterprise books.
Tothebridge I agree with you about about the Earth/Romulan war books. And the part about Trip and T'Pol and what may happen during the 3 book series if Trip was behind enenmy lines would he come back and be able to see Malcolm or T'Pol. I'd like to see Trip and T'Pol be together again. If there's going to be a Pon Farr storyline hinted at in that scene with the Dream and Mindmeld, T'Pol thoughts about Pon farr it makes sense they'll adress it somehow. How is the bond different between T'Pol and Trip now he's been genetically altered and more like a Vulcan.what hint's will we get in future books that's what I'd like to see. That both will have a real heart to heart talk and clear the air so to speak about the that need to be said.I liked to see Trip and Malcolm again working as a team. i also wonder if Trip's brother is going to be a troublemaker for the new coalition of planets it seems TGTMD strongly hinted at that as a storyline as well.
Pookha bravo for that song. :D

 Hey, thanks! I sent you a reply via fanfiction.net. :) If I do write anything, it would be set before TATV, that's for sure. And it would completely ignore TATV, by the way (at least the part about their relationship ending after Elizabeth's death). I don't write angst.

Can't wait to see where the books take us now--I'm glad they chose a direction that allows them so many options.

Very nice, pookha! :)

Yes, me too. And one thing I forgot to mention before...
I wonder if and how the editor and writers might address the question of children between Trip and T'Pol. Frankly, during the series, I thought the chances of them having long-lived children might be slim due to Spock canon/fanon issues. But Trip's genetic enhancements may give the writers more flexibility with addressing that issue. And if Trip is genetically enhanced (as a Romulan or Vulcan), what would be the genetic identity of his and T'Pol's offspring?

*sigh* I forgot what a great episode that was. I always kinda wondered what would have happened if Sim had survived. I have no doubt he would have just gone for it with T'Pol--I wonder how Trip would have felt about that?
One of the appealing things about Sim was his openness and innocence. That makes sense to some degree since he "grew up" very quickly and probably didn't have time to develop some of the filters, barriers, etc. that others sometimes do in the interests of tact, manners, and self-protection.

However, the other side of the coin is that he hadn't necessarily had the types of experiences that sometimes help adults to understand and manage their emotions effectively. If he had lived longer, presumably he could've gained those experiences, but I really wonder if at the point of the episode, he would've had the emotional maturity to pursue a serious relationshp. That's one reason I thought that Sim's "serious" feelings for T'Pol were probably primarily Trip's feelings. It didn't seem that Sim had spent enough time with T'Pol to develop feelings that deep, and I wonder if he would've interpreted them that way without the benefit of Trip's "memories."

Of course, that's where some of the science gets sort of murky -- the question of how Sim could've accessed not only Trip's memories but also the feelings associated with them.

You bring up a good point and it reminds me of something I was thinking about recently. Did anyone ever work out the timeline of when T'Pol started taking the trellium? In what episodes was she supposedly injecting the trellium? Phlox mentions that she took it for three months. And since "Azati Prime" takes place sometime in January, I guess that means she would've started on the trellium in the previous October timeframe. But it's not really clear to me what episodes fall within that window -- although there could be some references to the passage of time that I don't recall.

And going back to "Similitude," why did T'Pol get "emotional" about Sim's revelation? And who was she kissing near the end, Sim, Trip, or both?
