This film is kinda like what Star Wars did in their 'Infinities' comic book line. In one story, it takes off with what would have happened if Luke failed to blow up the Death Star. I guess this has been a Star Trek Elseworlds Production.
Can you not love old Trek and new Trek equally? That's my number one problem with complete enjoyment of this film. If I were to accept this story, I would have to discount Journey To Babel, Amok Time and literally hundreds of other things that made me love Trek in the first place.

I'm not nitpicking canon, I'm talking continuity. Something even Enterprise didn't trample over with such reckless abandon. I thought it was a fine film, the principle cast was surprisingly good and I look forward to seeing where they go from here; But as far as I'm concerned It's just not one hundred percent Star Trek. To be honest, I wish that they had had the balls to send Nimoy fishing with Shatner and just done a straight forward reboot. At least then we wouldn't have to worry about will this happen or did that happen. Sadly the producers wanted the best of both worlds and just couldn't let this crew launch on their own steam. So now were left with a fun two hour movie and a fragmented fourty year history. 2.0? 3.0, at least.
Different timeline, same multiverse. Both still co-exist, knowingly or not. If DC Comics can juggle 52 of 'em, why can't Trek have at least three or four?
