Trek's lowest moment

As said by others, "A Night in Sickbay" was easily Trek's low point, followed closely by "Threshold," and then Enterprise as a whole.

I've seen worse than "A Night In Sickbay" ("Alternative Factor", "Masks", "Sub Rosa", "Move Along Home"...) Never seen "Threshold" though.

I put Enterprise above Voyager and at least a third of TNG. :p

"Star Trek: Nemesis"
All of it. But one scene in particular: the close up on Troi's face where everything is darkened and there's a light put on her eyes for dramatic effect. WTF?

That's actually quite a standard cinematographic device, though not used so much these days. I think it was used a fair bit in TOS.

It was used with Kirk a lot in TOS, yes; for example, when he beams Captain Christopher aboard in "Tomorrow Is Yesterday" and looks him up and down.

J.J. used it in '09, in reference to TOS, as Captain Pike gives the order to get underway to Vulcan.

When riker and co murder the clones in cold blood in "up the long ladder"

This a million times over. I like the episode, but at least some time should have been spent checking how aware those things would be instead of just obliterating them without a word. It seems rather un- federation like.

"Star Trek" 2009 and the rise of the anti-Trek film franchise.

I couldn't agree more. And the next movie, too. It's everything but Star Trek.

People used to say the same about Enterprise. Or Deep Space Nine. Or the Next Generation.

A lot of people still feel that way about TNG and DS9 although the newer productions will generally get the most discussion, both positive and negative.

For lowest moment, what most comes to mind is most of the episodes "Aquiel" and "Precious Cargo".

I remember bits of "Up The Long Ladder" and Riker shagging one of the clones but don't recall their murder

They cloned Riker and he disintegrated the newly formed clone.

Also, I thought that he hooked up with the Irish leader's daughter. Not that I'm going to revisit the episode to determine if I'm correct.

Yes he did my mistake. He hooked up with her and used the wonderful pick up line "the ship cleans itself" :D

Not just Riker. Crusher and I think one more. Also, there are more than one of each of then IIRC.

Yes, it was one from the other colony - not a clone.

Quite true, though that whole scene is handled badly in NEM.

Overall though, it gets too much bashing, the franchise has sunk much lower than that.

Aquiel I thought as being kind of a middle of the road episode in term of quality and enjoyment.

The primary problem with Precious Cargo was the actress hired for the role of the princess, I feel her acting abilities were marginal, and it certainly would have been a better episode if the actress hired had had far more on screen chemistry with Conner Trinneer.

First season of TNG, Star Trek 1, Star Trek 5, Insurrection, Nemesis, much of TOS, Voyager, the Abrams films. There's actually a lot of really low points in the franchise now that I think of it. I didn't add ENT because even at its worst, its not THAT bad and it gets decent at the end.

In a distant future where time travel is as common as space travel in Trek's time, I have no issue with it. Especially since Daniels and his fellow agents are fighting an ongoing time war.

If we're talking individual moments and not entire horrible episodes.

-Daniels tells Archer that every six year old in the 29th century can send a message to the past with the contents of his school desk."

I suppose it doesn't materially effect your contention, but it was actually high school.:techman:

Perhaps Daniels was using hyperbole when he made tha comment as well.
It might make History class a little easier, though.

Agreed. The episode writing was weak (the phony trial scene is not as funny as it should have been), but the guest actor the worst part of it. Why would they cast a model who is married to Salman Rushdie when they could cast an actual actor??? Imagine if instead of her, they cast Nicole de Boer (Ezri Dax). She would have been great in the part.

I thought both episodes felt pretty annoyingly cliched and the romantic elements really forced.

Some notable other low moments: Riker remembering scenes in which he wasn't there in "Shades of Grey" (the cheapest moment), the term de-evolving in "Genesis" (one of the dumbest) and the dune buggy chase in Nemesis (dumb for existing just to please a star).
