TREK's best chess player?

Could it actually be....KIRK? I was watching Star Trek recently and I think, though I am not sure, Kirk beat spock twice. Does anyone actually know who won the more games between these two? I bet Kirk could take down DATA in eight moves!

It has been demonstrated on several occasions that Data's six million computations per second often fail to account for human playing characteristics. I believe Kirk would destroy Data in 3D chess.

But we'd also have to know how many times Spock beat Kirk.

I can entertain the idea though that Kirk was a MENSA-type intellect, and that he just didn't project it like an egghead. NuTrek certainly claims he was "off the charts".

I'd rather see Data vs. Spock, too bad, since we did have that opportunity in TNG.

Commodore Decker.

(In real life, William Windom is one of the best chess players in Hollywood.)

"Don't feel to bad Mr. Spock. Maybe you'll be able to beat your next Captain at chess." - Court Martial

I still think it was Spock. In Court Martial McCoy seemed astonished that he beat Enterprise's Main Computer because it was impossible to do. They later said the best that could be hoped for against Enterprise's computer on his hardest settings was a stalemate.

Wesley Crusher could beat Kirk!

It was stated the Spock programmed the Enterprise computers' chess program. So the best Spock could hope for playing essentially against himself was a draw.

Given that Russians dominated world chess in the 1960s, you'd think that the Trek writers would have Chekov beating everyone else.

The plot for a future movie: to defeat some all-powerful alien at chess, the Enterprise has to go back to the 20th century and bring back Bobby Fischer. (And, put up with him for however long it takes.)
