Though granted, the cause is certainly more noble than a "get Shatner in the film" movement.

Why would you need aggressive techniques to gather data if you have a Vulcan nearby?

First off, I agree with the group's statement that Star Trek is not about torture and its protagonists would never condone the use of it (Enterprise not withstanding.) TNG did a marvellous two parter on the horror, inhumanity, and more importantly, inefficiency of torture.
That being said, I'm not 100% sure why this individual/group feels the need to start a petition such as this. I've never seen Alias, so I don't know if Jennifer Garner's character routinely tortured captured bad guys or not and the only scene in M:I 3 where Cruise tortured anybody that I can recall involved Cruise dangling the antagonist out of a jet and the story/plot adequately punished Cruise's character for such an act.
If the film was being produced by ANYONE involved with 24, then yeah, I'd be worried (that show's more into torture than extreme BDSM afficiandos.) But again, without knowing more of Abrahm's body of work as it pertains to torture, I can't say that there's much need for this site at the moment.

It's fatuous.
The Trekkies Against Torture people, or Dusty Ayres? (I happen to know DA in real life - though he may not realize who I am here- and can say that he's a pretty sincere guy.)
No need for this site, huh? Check out the page's video files under 'J.J. Abrams'. All of the evidence for what they're saying is there, and I must admit, makes for a pretty compelling argument.

Yes, they are worried about torture in the new movie, and they want it to stop: Trekkies Against Torture
Opinons, anyone?
It is a legitimate issue though, our country's sneaky, cowardly, lawyeristic outsourcing of torture to appear blameless, as well as the Guantanomo BS, and the illegal detaining of Arabs in jails all over the country (spread 'em out and no one can say you're running concentration camps).

If we want to have a talk about the pros & cons of "torture" shouldn't we be doing it in TNZ?

The Feds and their associates will be limited to corruption, meglomania, vigilanteism, genocide, cultural contamination, and assorted racist behavior. You know, the typical things we've seen so many of them do in Trek throughout the years.
But no torture.

No, if the subject is torture, I think the Enterprise Forum is more appropriate.

Because Archer tortured people, or because watching the show was torture? If it's the latter, I'd suggest perusing the "Stargate Atlantis" topics as well.

Amazing (and I can't stand SG:A myself); but supposedly, it gets higher ratings then RDM's Battlestar Galactica.

Where is this infamous TNZ I keep hearing about? I keep hearing references to it but there is no such section in TrekBBS...? Probably just as well, I waste enough time in forums as it is.

There are reasons for concern, but I think Star Trek will be ok. If there is torture in the movie, I feel confident Kirk and Spock will be against it as they should.
