Trekkies Against Torture-A Warning To J.J. Abrams

Now this is a bit... not even reactive since there's nothing to react to here. Paranoid, looking for things to be wrong.

And ah, at least the Next Generation had Picard get "tortured", I'm sure there are more - but my point is to make the claim that "Torture is anti-Trek" or shouldn't appear in it is going a step to far since its dramatically acceptable depending on what's going on or who is doing it.

I think at least a couple of the previous trek movies could be classified as torture...Stuart Baird should certainly be indicted for some kind of crime against humanity

This is just about as random as making a website entitled "Trekkies against Shakey-Cam" because JJA productions use that, too.

Are we really worried that Kirk and crew are going to be portrayed as a bunch of heavy-handed intimidating thugs torturing their way through the galaxy? This site is presumptuous and unnecessary.

Now "Trekkies Against Shakey-Cam" I could get on board with...

I'm offended that some Trekkies would be so politically ethnocentric and speciesistic. Surely a Trekkie ought to be more multicultural in his tolerance of other planetary civilizations which employ torture.

Why would you need aggressive techniques to gather data if you have a Vulcan nearby?

True enough, but then Trekkies Against Mental Rape will get all fired up... there's no pleasing anyone nowadays!

I find some of their video samples interesting, the Trek one's I mean:

[TNG: Chain of Command - Picard becomes a torture survivor.] - so "torture" does have a place in Star Trek?

[TOS: Mirror - Scotty and Bones shocked at mirror universe brutality.] - Oh another example of Torture in Star Trek.

[TOS: Patterns - Star Trek first confronts Nazi Germany.] putting aside the silly premise... Kirk and Spock get tortured here.

The petition makes the claim "Torture" has no place in Star Trek, doesn't seem to specify StarFleet officers specifically, but I guess we're meant to infer this... if so say so since all the examples show Trek has at times depicted "torture" so therefore it must have a place in Star Trek when called upon.

I heard PETA was upset when Scotty beamed all of those poor defenseless tribbles over to the nasty Kling'n ship.

...not really, but I wouldn't put it past them.

Hey, now, I'm a card-carrying member of PETA.

Um... that's "People for the Eating of Tasty Animals."

I completely condone the torture of Trekkies.

You condone Enterprise?

I enjoyed that show. The fact that some Trekkies insisted in getting their panties in such a wad about it every week was profoundly entertaining.....and a little sad.

Well, torture is bad.

Erm... :wtf:

I'm not sure what else to say.

Of course it is. But all I'm saying is that it's a dramatic device that is no stranger to Star Trek, so I'm having trouble understanding this group's stance on torture in Trek.

Agony booth, anyone? ;)

Wasn't directed at you. I was referring to the website.

Just. Bizarre.

I figured that was probably the case, but I wanted to run my mouth off more, so I took the opportunity. :)
