Trekbbs - please read this concerning our member smeos

EDITED TO SAY - I am assuming that this is genuine, if it isn't a mod can delete the thread.

A cadet, who is unfamiliar with how to use this board, has posted this in a couple of threads

Let me try here. I posted in another thread:

I apologize for barging into this thread. I am unfamiliar with the operation of this board style and didn't want to spend the night looking up how to start a new thread. Perhaps one of you will be kind enough to give this news the place it deserves.

One of your own, Smeos (a virtual friend of mine from the Delphi board, PC Gaming online) has passed away. I don't know if his roomate has been able to get around, or in his grief, the desire to get around to everywhere Smeos went and pass the word.

At any rate, our friend died after a short illness:

Obituary here

His roomate said they believed it to be a bacterial abcess of the brain. That is unconfirmed, and really doesn't matter now.

I miss his wit very much. I see he had about 1,000 posts here. Maybe I'll come back and look for them. I don't know.

He was 23.

I do not know the member myself but maybe some people in Muscellaneous do.

I remember smeos. I remember him from the Gary Gygax charity thread. He was fairly new, but I thought he was a funny guy, great sense of humor.

Rest in peace, man. :(

J.

^ I remember seeing him here and there, but he stood out to me most in that thread.

My sympathies to his family and friends.

I'm very sorry to hear that. My best wishes go out to his family and friends for their loss. :(

I remember him from TNZ, although I believe we differed in opinion, we never came to blows (which is saying something, in there). My deepest condolences to his family and friends, I have been on the forefront of family grief myself of late, and to lose someone so young must be devastating. :( Rest in Peace.

ETA: Reading through some past posts, it seems smeos was Army Reserve in Canada for a time.

Thank you for posting it. We were hoping that it was an elaborate joke by Smeos. Based on contact with his roomate, his FB page, and the obituary, we're confident that it is true.

This thread was all I had asked, again, thank you. I'll be heading back to my computer forums now. Take care.

ETA: Reading through some past posts, it seems smeos was Army Reserve in Canada for a time.

He had talked about wanting to joing the U.S. Army and be a Ranger. As a member of the Army, I tried to talk him into a fitness plan (he was hefty) and even offered to go to a Recruiter with him. I think he would have enjoed the Army life.

He submitted a Trek story for "Star Trek: New Worlds" not that long ago. OH SHIT!!! I'll get on this ASAP!!!!

May he rest in peace.

*lowers my Canadian flag to half-mast. Shows up for his funeral in my dress uniform & joins the rest of TrekBBS in mourning.*
