With my av, it has to be done-
In 1987 Huey released this, Fore!, their most accomplished album. I think I their undisputed masterpiece is "Hip To Be Square," a song so catchy that most people probably don't listen to the lyrics. But they should because it's not just about the pleasures of conformity and the importance of trends. It's also a personal statement about the band itself.
Huey Lewis & the News- Hip To Be Square
"In Too Deep" is the most moving pop song of the 1980s about monogamy and commitment. The song is extremely uplifting. Their lyrics are as positive and affirmative as anything I've heard in rock.
Genesis- In Too Deep

Respect.
Actually, Bateman does listen to some seriously good music. Maybe why I love him so much
New Order- True Faith
Phil Collins- Sussudio
Katrina & the Waves- Walking on Sunshine
Robert Palmer- Simply Irresistible
Chris De Burgh- Lady In Red
Yeah, you had me with the "seriously good music" bit, right up to the bit where you go and mention Chris de Burgh...

Just for the record, I love Total Eclipse of the Heart. It was used to great effect in Old School. Here's another of my favorites from the old days.
Clarence Carter - Strokin'
Good call.
Kylie Minogue - I Should Be So Lucky

Haven't seen that in years.

Another oh-so-80s band that has to be mentioned is Yello:
"Oh Yeah"
That's SO Ferris BuellerA great 80s film.
That song appears in SO many 80s movies.

I think its best use is in Michael J Fox's Secret of My Success - his aunt is teasing him from the back of the limo he's chauffering and he's getting all hot under the collar (they don't know they're related). The music just works perfectly. Found it on YouTube!

My picks:
Rush Hour - Jane Wiedlin Chick in LBD with neon bows down the front, playing with dolphins? HAS to be the 1980s...

St Elmo's Fire - John Parr - Brat Pack goodness, 80s+++
Love in the First Degree - Bananarama Ah, Bananarama, I could watch you forever....

Manic Monday - The Bangles Well I can't include Bananarama, and not include equally gorgeous Bangles.

Video Killed the Radio Star - The Buggles - well, it seemed appropriate for a video thread!
