TrekBBS "I Love the Eighties!" music video special

"Word Up!" - Cameo
(worth it for the comedy codpiece alone... but check out the video's other big star too! :rommie:)

He went blind from staring at the codpiece... :D

A few classic 80s videos:

Rio - Duran Duran

Don't You Want Me Baby - Human League

Gold - Spandau Ballet

And finally, one song that I was going to link to the music video of... but actually, I associate it FAR more this movie intro than the actual music video:

Call Me - Blondie

Richard Gere was SO damn cool. The scene in the movie where he's going through his wardrobe to decide what to wear that day is inspirational! ;)

Don't know how I forgot earlier, but probably the best song of all time-

Prince- Purple Rain

Sooooooooooooooooo good, the guitar licks are immense. No Youtube link as the man loves his copyrights, but just buy it from iTunes. Worth every penny and more

I turned 20 in December '89, so the decade is pretty "my generation" for me. Like any other period, it had some good stuff and a lot of crap. A lot of what has been mentioned here I wouldn't have been caught dead listening to then, and it hasn't improved with age! But it's funny to see what people think of the music. Hard to believe that the '80s are as far back now as the '60s were when I was a teenager.

Have I missed it or has no one actually mentioned Culture Club or A Flock of Seagulls yet?

Here are a few that came to mind:

The best song from the album that launched a thousand serious, dapper, mostly British, synthy crooner bands.

To me,
this one
epitomizes the first "New Wave" to hit the US in the early '80s, if you were lucky enough to have MTV or a radio station in your town that would actually play the stuff.

One of my favorites from around age 15, I wore a concert t-shirt of this band till it was falling apart.

Some guitar rock that even "new wavers" would dance to.

I don't think I was ever as excited to see a band on TV as I was when I saw this on Letterman in 1984. And they did two songs, unheard of. One of the coolest bands ever.

big fan of these guys. I remember going to a Halloween party dressed as a Stray Cat, complete with tattoos
Stray Cats- Rock This Town

Stray Cats- Stray Cat Strut

Stray Cats- Sexy and 17

Sexy and 17 reminded me of:

Van Halen- Hot For Teacher

AC/DC- You Shook Me All Night Long

More fun at school (from the early 90s, so sue me)
Spinal Tap- Bitch School

Tom Petty- Don't Come Around Here No More

Jackson Browne-Laywers In Love
Jackson Browne- She Got To be Somebody's Baby. makes of think of my girlfriend from '82 and of course "Fast Times At Ridgemont High"

Bruce Springsteen- Born In the USA

Bruce Springsteen- Glory Days

Rolling Stones- Waiting On Friend. Good song for when your hanging out with your buddies and are between girlfriends. ;)

David Bowie- Ashes To Ashes Quite a few 80s video trends in this one
( and it was only 1980!)

More geezers from the 60s making it in 80s ;)
the Who- You better You bet

This thread is really bringing back a great many memories of college and those years right after! Those were good times... damn good times.

I was born halfway through the 1980s and only discovered that decade's musical delights in my late teens.
Some of were fortunate enough to live through the whole decade. :) Mind you, my music memories only really begin circa. 1983 with The Police's "Every Breath You Take" - the first pop song I remember. :bolian:

Anyway, for me, nothing says 80s more than Big Country!

"In A Big Country"

"Fields of Fire"

"One Great Thing"

:bolian:

Oh man, back when the Police were up and coming. Remember when Genesis went on tour in 86/87? Heavy Metal had its birth in the 80's. Big hair and gobs of hairspray on the chicks  I wouldn't mind living through 1982 - 1987 again.
