TrekBBS Fantasy Baseball League!

Trades aren't allowed as per the game rules. We could change it to allow trades, but then our league champion (and any other qualifier for the Underdog bracket) will become ineligible for the overall MLB Open tournament. Somewhere in the FAQ it explains the postseason stuff after our playoffs end in early August. I'm not too worried about losing trades, and every other league playing in the postseason will have the same thing going.

As for pitching staffs, you didn't read my prior posts thoroughly, Doctor! ;)
Yes, you are drafting an entire pitching staff and not individual pitchers. It's just one of the differences in this MLB Open game. It will simplify your pitching worries, that's for sure. That is something that is standardized over the entire game for all leagues.

No, it's not something I'd prefer in most leagues, but since this is sort of an extra or third league for many of us, we all have leagues that run the general standard rules elsewhere. If we're lucky, our league champ (or a possible wildcard) might make the overall game final tournament.

Reminder, the Yahoo NL league drafts TONIGHT, 8pm EST. By 10pm, you'll all be fighting for 2nd place...

Bah, I hate how Yahoo unceremoniously cuts us off from chat the moment the draft is over. I wasn't done complaining about Deanna's Dawgs. :p

Yeah, kind of like me complaining about playing Scout the first week. ;)

Still can't believe you didn't take ARod 1st overall. You took the guy ranked 11th with the #1 pick. We'll see how that works out for you...

Happy with my team. A little light on the steals, but that may come around, or I'll just concede the category. I've definitely got the power, saves look good, and wins shouldn't be a problem. I've got a stranglehold on, uh, Holds as well.

Overall, happy with my draft. Off my game a little in the middle rounds, but think I snapped out of it ok...

^I don't think you've got as much of a stranglehold on those as you think. You've only got me by three in that catagory (though that was unintentional).

I think it's a matter of personal preference on that one. I don't like ARod, and while he's good, I do think Ryan Howard is a much better player right now. That, and I don't think I took a Yankee in that entire draft. You're right, we'll see how it works out, but overall, yeah I do feel like I had a great draft. I got the power hitters I wanted, and I set myself up for wins and ERA in pitching with some good chances for saves with Hoffman.

As for the ranking, I looked at those as players to take in the first round. I take A-rod and chances are I wouldn't get Howard. It was one or the other pretty much. Also, you can rank these players how you want, but if there is one thing I learned last year is that fantasy anything is more of a crapshoot than anything else. Hope you get the great players, statically, but sometimes I doesn't always work out.

Wow - somebody passed on A-Rod at #1 for the 11th best player? Crazy!

ETA - It can be a crapshoot sometimes, but good preparation can definitely enhance your odds. Ryan Howard was great two years ago, but was down a bit last year. Definitely NOT better than A-Rod. Trails A-Rod in every single category and especially so in average (60 points below), steals (25 fewer), and runs (50). Sure, everybody has their own opinion on ranking players, but there isn't a cheat sheet or fantasy expert I can find that has Ryan Howard anywhere close to A-Rod.

If you just hate A-Rod that much, that's fine, but that's the kind of thing that's the difference between winning and just owning a team of guys you like, but don't make the playoffs.

That's the spirit!
Sure - we all hate the Yankees. There's still plenty of time to hate 'em all season. Hating the Yanks doesn't mean I can't use a couple of them to help me win a fantasy championship.

Ewww!! Yeah, he'll make you feel dirty. Still, you just have to make sure that you keep rooting for them to suck, except when he's at the plate. Soon, you'll be able to balance the delicate worlds of fantasy sucess and Yankee hatred.
