TrekBBS Fantasy Baseball League!

Ah, I'm working a really long day that day, so that won't work for me. That's fine. I need three leagues like I need a hole in my head.

Well, then maybe some of those folks will want to join up with a couple of people I was talking about doing a league with this season.

Over on ESPN, I threw out the idea of adding a roster spot to each team this season, since our league is a bit on the low side of roster size relative to most leagues. If people are interested in adding the spot, now is the time to do it. If not, then now is the time to reject it. Chime in on the league page.

I can't get to the ESPN page from work, so just a quick question, Coaster: extra bench spot, or playable position? If it's a bench spot, I'm all for it. It was definitely a little tight last year at times.

As for the Yahoo AL League: If you're going to disband it, I'd be willing to take two of the refugees into the NL league, to make us a max of 14 players. Offer would extend first to people not in the ESPN league, just so we're not excluding someone that wants to play so someone else can have two teams. Only caveats are that the draft is tomorrow night, 8pm EST, and I can't change the settings to 14 people until after work.

If anyone is interested in that, please PM me with your email address, and I can send out the invites to the two new people when I get home.

Long Live the National League (of fantasy baseball. in real life, screw the NL!) :D

Oh, yeah...DEFINITELY just an added bench spot. I don't think we need to add an active roster position, but one more spot of roster flexibility would be good for everybody.

MLB.com has an interesting version of fantasy baseball up and running. I'm going to run a team there and thought I'd throw it out there for anybody else who might want to give it a shot.

It's the MLB Open 2008. Basically, things are fairly standardized - 12 teams in a league, H2H, mixed AL/NL, etc. (non-keeper). Leagues have three divisions and the playoffs are the division champs and a wildcard.

The season runs until late July. Then you have your league playoffs. Your league champ advances to a Winner's bracket of sorts and competes for 2 weeks against the other 1,000 or however many league champs there are...with the top 30 teams point-wise advancing to a final playoff bracket. The other 2 teams to join the 30 will be from a pool of Underdogs (non-champions who totaled a certain number of points during the season).

Then the 32 final teams play tourney style until the end of the season for a championship. So it's a somewhat short season if you don't make the playoffs, but there's a possiblity of some playoff fun beyond the league and a cash prize at the end. No, no cost to join. Drafts can be live or auto. Teams are basically a starting offensive lineup plus a pitching staff (you pick a team's staff rather than individual pitchers). There are NO trades if your league wants to participate in the overall tourney aspect, but as few trades as there are in some of our leagues, that won't bother too many.

Sounds like it might be a fun alternative to the usual leagues. Give a shout if you're interested in the MLB Open game and we'll set something up. I have a few people who would be willing to fill out the league if we can't get 12 people from here that are interested.

Excellent.
Because there are fewer roster spots and a shorter season (unless you're winning it all), it might be a slightly lighter kind of thing. Pitching surely would be easy to deal with.

I'll set something up tomorrow and post the details to sign up. I'm not sure whether I should even try to get a live draft set up or if we should just go auto. I know there's already been a struggle trying to get live drafts going for various leagues.

As for the AL Yahoo, I may see if I can get my brother (not the ESPN league brother) to join. If he will, then I'll join and that would give us 10. Alas, I would still have to do an autodraft list most likely.

Coaster, it looks like we are at 9 teams now in the AL. All you have to do now is join and we've got it made!:techman:

Alright...I'll go ahead and join up tomorrow then. I hate to have to autodraft, but I may have no other choice. My brother may be willing to join up for the AL league, so if he is, then one more would bring things to 12. If we don't have the 12th, then he probably wouldn't care about skipping it, leaving us at 10.

Hey, I gotta autodraft in ESPN, so suck it up and autodraft in Yahoo, and we'll be even.

coaster, just in case I don't get time to do this in ESPN tonight - I'm all for an extra bench spot. I had a couple times last season when I had to let people go that I'd have rather kept.

I was going to say that it's been unanimous so far, but somebody had to go and vote "No." So it's not unanimous, but it's still 8 of 9 in favor of the extra spot including Ice's vote that isn't on the league page yet.

Ok, for those interested in the MLB Open league I mentioned a few posts up, here's the information:

The link to the game home page:
http://www.mlb.com/mlb/fantasy/wsfb/index.jsp

All the info you need is on there explaining it. It's not much different other than the playoffs if you qualify.

To join the private league, you'll need the league ID and password:

League ID: 51413
password: diamond

Rather than screw around trying to find yet another open date where most can show up to live draft (there are around 3 leagues or more that some of us are in), I just made it a list/pre-rank autodraft. So everybody is in the same boat. As soon as the last team has joined (team #12), the autodraft will be scheduled. Once we draft, the season will start the first Monday after that. So the sooner we get everybody on board, the sooner the draft will go through and we can get started. Rank your players (if you wish to change them from MLB.com's default list) ASAP when you have a chance. Note than you CAN exclude players from the draft list if you so choose.

Cool, I'm in!

When I joined, I noticed under the league's "credentials" (as the site calls it) that trades aren't allowed. I assume that's on option going to be changed?

Edit: Another concern, a much bigger one. Currently, the league setting is for a whole pitching staff by team and not by individual pitchers. Is this changeable or is this a fixed setting for the whole thing?
