TrekBBS Fantasy Baseball League!

my team sucks and has been all over the place this year. The PLAYERS seem fine, but injuries to key players, and some odd under-performance has me stuck looking up in all but the ESPN league (that's two crappy Yahoo leagues, if you're keeping score). Hell, the one Yahoo league I'm in, I'm in 2nd place, but still 22 games out

suppose someone has to win, by default. Then again, that was my thought before I got a 5-5-0 tie in the ESPN league, or before I somehow lost to Tomalak 7-9 in the NL this past week...

Watch out, everyone! tomalak is about to make the greatest comeback of all time! :D

Well, I wouldn't go that far, but thanks. ;)

Seriously though, it took a long time but I'm actually feeling good about this team. The pitchers are finally starting to be consistant, and the hitters aren't striking out that much. Of course all those weeks when they were might have cost me already which is why I ask the question how long does one wait until they are out of it and start panicking. It seemed I had to wait a quarter of the entire regular season.

And knowing how long to wait on a player is one of the bigger questions in fantasy baseball. In football, you kind of know who the studs are, but in baseball, it's harder to tell. Are they just in a funk or is there something more to that slump? Baseball tends to be more volatile: You never know when a player will come out of nowhere and put up big numbers. But premier pitchers will usually come through in the long run. You have both Sabathia and Verlander, and while they both had shaky starts, you were smart to hang on to them. And it's paying off for you now.

I'm starting to think twice about a counter-offer I made in the ESPN league. Saves were the one category I could almost always count on winning, and if the trade is accepted, I'd lose that gimme. I'd shore up a few positions I'm weak in, but I'd weaken my one strong position.

Tomalak, She's right. There's a lot more risk involved when you are dealing with a baseball team.

Someone gets injured and is going to be out for a while (Adam Wainright is a good example right now). Do you put them on the DL and hope like hell that they'll come back and contribute while also hoping that you don't need that DL spot for someone more important to your team, or do you put the guy on waivers? It's rare when the choice is obvious like it was for Smoltz.

I've got another good example. Chone Figgins spent three weeks on the DL. When he came back, he played one game and went back on it immediately. I put him back on the DL and waited again. He's now come back and is now hitting .350. It's a risk though. Look at what happened to the guy who held onto Curt Shilling.

Well, I see my counter-offer was accepted and should get processed early Thursday. I'm already having a bit of buyer's remorse, but hopefully the trade will help both of us.

starting sunday, I'll be away for two weeks. that ought to REALLY help my struggling teams

Then again, the way it's going, maybe it might help. I'll probably screw my pitching rotation all up, though. Hoping to have access at some point on the trip, but not sure...

Yikes! Just when I thought my ESPN team was coming around, I lose 0-9-1. I'd like to blame it on not having computer access over the weekend (went camping), but that didn't seem to hurt my Yahoo team.

Well, the 2 game winning streak is over, but it was a close call. I almost tied her being down 4-11 going into yesterday's action. I'm still liking this team, even though does anyone want to make any trades. I'm willing to trade a pitcher for a power hitter or base stealer. Verlander is actually good trade bait now so if anyone wants to make any moves, I'm open.

Tomalak301: I sent you a trade proposal. I also listed another possibility in the trade proposal. If neither of those options suit you, I'm open to trading Ryan Church as well.

I liked your second option. I've been looking for speed all year, so hopefully this works for you.

Okay, send me a counter-offer.

Edited to add: I just saw that you did send one, and I've accepted.

Blargh! I go away for the weekend to the beach and my team craps all over the place. And Chipper is likely to go onto the DL. :(

At least Hamilton isn't injured...

I hate it when you have a good week going, only to see it all slip away on Sunday. My Yahoo opponent (Cookstown) had a banner day on Sunday: Not only did he win most of the categories in which we were close, but he also took a few categories I thought I had a lock on.

That sucks. :(

I pulled out the best I could after the slow start. Chipper Jones was on fucking fire (3 for 5, triple, home run, and four walks), but I still wasn't able to reclaim OPS.

Is it just me or are there are a lot more injuries this season than last? I just put Todd Helton on the DL (although it was a long time coming) and I still have few others who might drift that way depending on the wind.

I see our mystery team (A.F.Z.) in the NL Yahoo league finally didn't make the minimum innings last week. Not too surprising, considering he now has 4 pitchers in his starting line-up that are on the DL (and 3 other players as well). Kind of sucks, but at this point, there's not a lot we can do except hope that his inaction doesn't totally screw things up.

Anybody (in either ESPN or NL Yahoo) interested in Andre Beltre? He's frustrating me- if I bench him, he does great, but every time I play him, he goes south. And now I hear rumors that the Twins are interested in him: I really don't want to jinx another Twinkies player by having him on my roster.
