TrekBBS Fantasy Baseball League!

Injuries are still hurting my Yahoo team. I finally got Vernon Wells off the DL list (bringing my total back down to the 3 there's room for on the DL), and I lose 2 more players. I'm willing to carry 4 DL players, but with only 3 DL spots available, I just can't afford to carry 5 on my roster. Hated to drop Hairston, but I had to make room for a 2B that can actually play.

I was up to 4 on DL as well with the same problem so I finally had to let him go.
I'm really in a quandry as to what to do when my current DL players come back into rotation.

this year has just been brutal for injuries. No one has really avoided them this year, and it's been a lot of the BIG names hurt. For example, in my ESPN keeper team, all 6 of my keepers have been on the DL for some length of time (or in Hanley's case, just played through several injuries)...

Yeah, thankfully most of my injuries were at the beginning of the season. Posada has just gotten back and now I don't need him, so I'm pursuing trading possibilities. Keppinger will be back sometime this month, but I have no idea who I'm going to drop when he does return.

Usually...usually...you pick up someone to cover your DL'd player and he takes up the slack but you don't mind releasing him. Some of my 'pick ups' have done better than I expected and I'll soon have more starters than I need or like.
Peavy is coming back tomorrow.

I got the other end of that. I picked up Clint Barmes to cover SS/2B injuries. He played great for a couple days, and then went on the DL himself!

And  to Sportzkid. Just last night we were talking about the fantasy baseball season, and the injuries, and he was happy that he kept Pujols, as his elbow had held up and he hadn't gotten hurt. Literally about 20 minutes after that conversation, Pujols went down with a pretty bad calf injury ;)

will check the timestamp, it might actually be close enough that the injury happened WHILE he was talking about it :p

Well I'm chuckling but I bet Sportzkid isn't.
Oh man. :)

Did you hear back from the A.F.Z. manager?

not as of this morning, no. And yahoo doesn't let you remove a manager, so not a whole lot that can be done about it. I could use the commissioner tool and manage the team FOR him, but to be frank, that's a lot of work, and not likely to happen. Also, it would be tempting to trade his good players to me and bench everyone the week he plays me :p

His absence doesn't bother me that much but I know you and others do take the integrity of the League very seriously. On the other hand, there could be legitimate reasons why he disappeared.
I know I beat him 16-1 last week but it wasn't as lopsided as all that. His pitchers let him down.

yeah, it's definitely kinda lame, and sucks that it happened this early, though. In a one-year Yahoo league, it's bound to happen though. There's always 1-2 teams that decided to try it out, and either forget, get bored, or just are losing too badly, so they stop playing.

I really like the Yahoo system, and having the records/trophy case, etc, but am starting to wonder if maybe next year, ESPN makes more sense. That system works alright for the Keeper league, and the commissioner gets a little more control, can replace people, etc. We can talk about it at the end of the season, I guess, but wondering if that might be a better answer next time, even for the 1-year only league...

I guess the question might be who is the manager of A.F.Z.
If we restrict it to regular posters on the board, is that being unfair?

It makes me uneasy talking about someone like this so I guess we'll just live with the situation if he doesn't respond to your email(s).
Next Spring...loyalty oath.

Yeah, that's what I usually do, but Keppinger's replacement, Christian Guzman has really proven himself, so I'm not going to dump him. I'm going to wait and see when Keppinger returns if 1) He gets his job back (embarrassingly, he'll beat Alex Gonzalez back) and 2) He hits like he did before the injury. For most DL hitters, I usually do the latter anyways (like I did with Soriano in particular earlier this season because sucked so much before the injury). I make them earn their spot back. Unless their name is Chipper Jones. ;)

Way to jinx yourself, sportzkid! :guffaw:

Seriously, that sucks.

It isn't so much of an integrity issue for me, but rather the imbalance of playing against a team that has multiple DL players on the active roster and never rotates the pitchers because he or she is never around. Because he has two injured starters on his active roster, he has come this || close to missing the minimum in the last two weeks, which would mean all of his stats are thrown out.

Then we all get a free ride for a week courtesy of our missing manager.
I've never seen placements in a league change so much as this one; in other words, every team potentially can beat every team and there are no easy weeks.

what I COULD do is, after week 11 when he'll have played everyone once, change his roster so he at least has as many starting pitchers in the rotation as possible, move the position players that are injured to the bench, etc. I won't make any pickups or move anyone to the DL, but it'll at least keep him from missing the minimum innings pitched, and give people a decent run for their money...

Ya it was quite a sad twist of fate that it happened soon after Scout and I talked. Like we where saying up thread, every one certainly has been hit by the injury bug, just further proves it.

That's a great idea. I'm all for it. Thanks. :)

Hang in there Sportzkid. It's early days.
