Trek XI Cast Already Signed on to Make More Trek Movies?

IIRC, the cast of the Lost in Space film was signed for three movies, but when the first tanked, that was it. I hope that's not the case with Star Trek.

I would. Even if it sucked. Hell, it's TNG, I can't help it.

DING DING DING!!!!!!!!!!

And THAT, people, is THE MAIN REASON ST sucked for the better part of the last decade.

I'd take a bad TNG or DS9 or VOY film over a bad or even mediochar TOS film anyday.

I never really liked TOS, it was too american, and too Kirk centred (I am a Londoner from the UK). He was only one of MANY captains, not GOD. The only times I have enjoyed TOS is in 'The Wrath of Kahn', and 'The Undiscovered Country' oh and 'The Final Frontier' (if only for the characterisation and pathos)

I experienced trek first with TNG, and that felt much more international, and spoke of a generation I belonged to.

I don't think DS9 or VOY would work as films, the only regret I have, is that there wasn't another season of Voyager, showing the characters after they got home, rebuilding their lives, and moving on to new ships and new crews. That could have really led to some good emotional moments which were commonplace in DS9. (providing some of the DS9 writers had moved onto VOY)

Please note Enterprise was not mentioned...

good points. I agree TOS was too focused on Kirk alone, and the only thing I liked about TNG was that they got away from that and spread around the stories.

But, as you yourself pointed out they lost the passion of TOS as well. Only DS9 recaptured it. The writing on VOY and ENT was too poor to offer significant character emotions or motivations for my tastes. I could see a 24th century series working if the characters were well written but today's audiences won't give it a chance- they're too burned out on Trek it seems.

Hopefully a well written movie every 2 or 3 years is exactly what will whet the appetites to see a resurgence of demand for TV Trek.

People,

Well, looks like the agents for the cast members earned their money. They want to ensure that if this new ST movie succeeds, their people get their monetary reward. Hey, not much wrong with that!

Red Ranger

I'd love a single, ongoing TV series but if we're stuck with high budget feature films for the time being, so be it. I just hope that they're not just rebooting TOS but the entire mythos altogether, TNG-era included.

I asked you to knock it off in another thread as well, but I'm gonna ask here too so that you will be sure and see it.

HolyTomato, I need you to cut WAY back on these nonsensical spammy posts.

If you have something productive to say about a topic, then say it...but this nonsensical, smilie-intensive, non-contributory posting is starting to become pretty annoying.

Thanks.

Fuck yeah!!! Can't get enough of those Mmm, Mmm Lesbians!

I think this is all very exciting. Batman was a dead franchise. Some new folks came in with a new vision and now the sequel is one of the most anticipated films of the year.

Star Trek has elicited some of the same groans that the Batman and Robin movies had. But now, this is a chance for a rebirth. And maybe come 2010 or 2011, when the new Star Trek 2 is close, it can also be a film that many especially everyone here, can look forward to.

That's too bad...well, not that I necessarily wanted to see more 'Lost in Space' movies, but it's nice to see any film with Lacey Chabert -- now that she's all grown up.

About the topic....

Same thing happened with POTC, the actors had the OPTION to do Sequels, that ONLY would be made if the first film made a lot of money, which it did, so they made 2 more back to back to complete the trilogy....

Same situation here, IF, and I do mean IF the first film here makes a ton of money, then they'll make 2 sequels, possibly back to back as to make a complete trilogy....

GRANTED, POTC is going to have a 4th film, due to all the money made from the first 3 plus the merchandising helped as well, I'm sure ;)

Nobody said that. And there's no reason to assume they'd film the next two back-to-back like POTC and The Matrix. Remember, all the people who signed up for X-Men signed three-film deals, as did most of the folks from Batman Begins.

It stands to reason that if the movie makes a lot of money the studio will at least attempt to make sequels with the same cast and in the same time period.

And if it doesn't, that doesn't mean that they'll then go back to the old TNG/DS9/VOY cast for a new movie. In fact, I can imagine virtually no scenario under which we'll ever seen those characters onscreen in leading parts again.

Sorry - 'POTC' stands for?

well I'd be happy that if we didn't get a TV series we at least get a movie series

I'm still hoping for a movie or mini-series (won't hold my breath on the last one) on the Romulan War. That was my hope for Enterprise when it was announced.
