Trek names in real life?

I would name my daugter if I were to have on eeither Jadzia, Ezri or B'Elanna .. im sorry but I think those are great female names, i likethe sound to them.

I have no male names trek related I would ever use.

I agree that Jadzia and Ezri are cool names. Deanna is also nice. I would consider naming a kid any of those. But I think there's a difference between naming a kid something because you like the sound of the name, and naming a kid because you like the character.

When I was a kid, I had a friend named Kirk. His parents were serious Trekkies; their bedroom was practically wallpapered with Star Trek posters, and they had all the TOS episodes on VHS back when they cost 25 bucks each in 1980s dollars.

For a short time, after Bill Hemmer was let go, the CNN "Morning Show" or whatever they called it was hosted by both Soledad O'Brien and Miles O'Brien. Which, considering not even the slightest actual relation between them, was kind of ironically funny.

There is a local plastic surgeon named Charles Tucker Jr. Not just Charles Tucker, but Charles Tucker Jr. Which means if he had a son and kept with the tradition, his son would be Charles Tucker III.

Jadzia is actually a nickname for Jadwiga which is a Polish name. Jadwiga is also the Polish name for Hedwig so there's a roundabout Harry Potter connection. Jadzia however is pronounced entirely differently in the Polish language.

Saavik, Leia, and Aeryn are my guilty pleasure names. I don't think I could ever bring myself to inflict those names on a daughter of mine though. Sarek is also a name I'd consider in the guilty pleasure category but I see someone has used it for their son. I'm curious, does it get misheard as Derek a lot? That would be my main concern with using the name. Well, other than getting labeled as the offspring of geeks! (Sarek is such an awesome character though; I hope he grows to like his namesake!).

Well, when my wife was pregnant I was joking around about naming our son the following names ...Worf, Jean-Luc, Kirk and Spock.

Then I rattled off Sarek.

Oh, I like that she said.

Are you kidding me?

No.

So the name stuck.

Yep, my son is named Sarek.

That...is SO...epic! I love it! XD

Erm...the closest I've come to this level of greatness is my Mii (on the Nintendo Wii), who's named Sarek (and his looks are also as close as I could get to Mark Lenard's awesome-ness). ^_^; If I could name a child after a Trek character...."Sarek Severus" (the middle name being from Harry Potter) has a nice ring to it...

Recently, I actually met a kid (about 12 years old) named Jean-Luc Picard Travis (Jean-Luc being his first and Picard being his middle names). I was at a toy store (I'm still a little kid on the inside) and I heard a father calling out for "Jean-Luc".. So I stopped him and said, "I don't mean to be nosy, but I overheard you and just wanted to say that I think Jean-Luc is a really awesome name." He then replied, "Well, his full name is Jean-Luc Picard Travis.. his mother wanted to name him Data but I said he'd get made fun of too much."
