Trek Lit moments that you would have liked to see on the silver screen

I'm sure that when you read the books, you'll be visualising the action anyway in an aspect ratio of you own choice, with a resounding soundtrack. But some Trek Lit moments are more cinematic than most.

Which moments do you believe it was criminal not to have committed to celluloid?

For me it's actually a rather quiet one. In Diane Carey's Final Frontier, there is a scene set just after City On The Edge Of Forever, with Kirk reevaluating his career. He's come home to Iowa, and is sat in his barn with a cup of coffee, looking over his dad's old letters, trying to figure where he went wrong.

McCoy and Spock show up to give him a pep talk, and what follows is one of the best big three moments ever. (IMO need it be said).

Actually I think that Final Frontier should have been the fifth movie, but anyway, that one scene in my mind should have been immortalised in more than just print.

Your go.

Re: Trek Lit moments that you would have liked to see on the silver sc

pretty much the entirity of Wildfire, ATT Kill/Heal, Q&A and Orion's Hounds.

Re: Trek Lit moments that you would have liked to see on the silver sc

I would have loved to have seen A Time to Kill and A Time to Heal on the big screen instead of Nemesis.

Instead of The Final Frontier being the fifth movie? :D

Hey! That's my Punjabi heritage sneaking through. No indefinite article in Punjabi or other similar languages.

It crosses over into my English sometimes, and I'm English born and bred. You shoud read my dad's prose! He employs me as a proofreader sometimes to insert "the" and "a" left missing in action.

Re: Trek Lit moments that you would have liked to see on the silver sc

I have simple tastes. The only moments I would've wanted to see on the big screen is the entirety of "The Ashes of Eden" and "Federation" (though I love the whole Shatnerverse, I'm not conceded enough to think the post-Return books could've been movies).
Of course, for me, the more accurate expression is "which moments would you like to have seen in movies," since the new one will be the first that I get to see in the theatre.

That's not what I meant. I was commenting on the irony that you thought the novel Final Frontier should've been the fifth movie, whereas the real fifth movie was Star Trek V: The Final Frontier. So you were saying you wished the movie had been replaced by a different story with almost exactly the same title.

Re: Trek Lit moments that you would have liked to see on the silver sc

For the most part, the books are a better medium for the kind of stories being told nowadays. That said, I imagine the moments I'd best like to see onscreen are those which would be FX-driven and visually impressive, like Ring around the Sky or Orion's Hounds. Alien landscapes or massive space battles, all rendered in smooth CGI...

Fictitiously yours, Trent Roman

D'oh! Stupid me, reading between the lines again...

As the great Shat once said, "Irony can be pretty ironic sometimes!"

What definetly needs to be turned into a movie would be Vanguard, that would an awesome series of movies, especially the third one. (Reyes "Glass it!" -order, T’Prynn collapsing after the death of her lover)

don't you mean conceited, not conceded?

So, no spoilers, then...

Yeah, the Vanguard book wold make amazing movies, and so would A Time Kill/Heal/Peace, War. Yeah, I've got all sorts of original ideas, don't I.:klingon:

Some books I would have liked to see on screen:

Q-squared
Fallen Heroes
The 34th Rule
Crucible: McCoy
The S.C.E./CoE series

For me it's actually a rather quiet one. In Diane Carey's Final Frontier

I love the closing lines of the audio version. James Doohan, saying the famous TOS Kirk opening monologue, but as Captain Robert April, and reprising the role Doohan had already done in TAS.

I'm biased, but I'd love to see a cinematic version of "Andor: Paradigm" from "Worlds of DS9, Book 1".

"Uhura's Song" or "Star Trek Log Ten" (kzinti story from TAS plus new adventures) would be huge SPFX makeup challenges, but they'd be cool. Ditto "Dreams of the Raven".

Also "The Wounded Sky", for which TNG's "Where No One Has Gone Before" was a teaser.

Re: Trek Lit moments that you would have liked to see on the silver sc

The DS9 relaunch in general, but the "I suppose you want the office" scene from Unity in particular.

Re: Trek Lit moments that you would have liked to see on the silver sc

There's a scene in Vanguard between Reyes and Kirk (I think it's the scene where they first encounter each other) that would be great to see. I would also love to see the first interaction between Ro and Quark from Avatar, Part 1 translated to the screen (since I think Armin and Michelle would knock it out of the park and make it even funnier than it already is on the page).

Re: Trek Lit moments that you would have liked to see on the silver sc

For me:

The Millennium Trilogy
All of the Vanguard books
A Time to Be Born
Articles of the Federation
Engines of Destiny
Rising Son
String Theory Trilogy

Re: Trek Lit moments that you would have liked to see on the silver sc

Vulcan's Forge and Vulcan's Heart, followed by the Vulcan's Soul trilogy. Five movies.

Quite so, quite so. My mistake.
