Trek FTL drives

Not sure how to phrase this question, but here goes: as opposed to standard warp drive, FTL methods such as quantum slipstream or transwarp corridors, whilst offering velocities in excess of warp drive operate at a "fixed" velocity, yes? It seems to me that once the ship is in a transwarp corridor or "transiting the slipstream" ;) that it travels at a fixed rate of speed, so there's no "slipstream factor three" or anything like that. Yes, no, maybe?

If that makes any sense, I would appreciate thoughts and comments. I am exploring ideas for a FTL drive for my fic, and any input is appreciated.

We've seen examples of vessels overtaking other vessels while in slipstream, so the ship-propulsion version of it certainly has different speeds. As for transwarp corridors, I don't know. They might very well be like a river that pushes you along at a set rate.

Slipstream is variable, and actually, I think transwarp is, too -- at least the Borg version. Because in VOY "Endgame," the sphere overtook Voyager inside the corridor.

That's true, I'd forgotten about that bit in "Endgame".. hmm, back to the ol' drawing board, and back to the DVD to rewatch "Endgame"...

And the Trek standard warp drive does exist in the fic, but there is an alien "Alliance" that uses what I'm calling "superspace" for FTL travel; it's akin to slipstream but has unique properties.

EDIT: I just had a thought.. maybe slipstream/transwarp conduit travel is like the East Australian Current in "Finding Nemo" (I have kids, can you tell? :D ) You can get in and let the current carry you along, or if so equipped you can 'pass up' others travelling with the current.

"Righteous!! Righteous!! So, what brings you on this fine day to the Slipstream?" :D :D
