Trek comparisons

Newbie
reading another thread here, i started remembering all the things in trek that we used to think were just so cool, especially in TNG, that are now pretty much streamline products.

1. Tricorder (recall infor portion of it, not the scanning portion) - Palm/Blackberry/ect.
2. Communicator (TOS) - Cell Phone
3. The computers on the desks (the one picard used in the ready room) - Laptops.

any more you guys/gals can think of?

Well, a lot of smartphones now have GPS and WiFi antennas, IR ports and are capable of running a number of applications for different purposes. They are becoming closer to tricorders now than just pads.

In the 1970s they named the prototype space shuttle after the Starship Enterprise from Star Trek. They even played the Star Trek music as they wheeled it out. Then in 1978 in Star Trek TMP, they showed a picture of that same shuttle, presenting it as a precursor of the 1701.
I know that's not quite the same thing, but somehow related.
For that matter, in TMP, they had that cool thruster suit. No tether lines. Then years later, the shuttle astronauts had a suit that operated with little thrusters to move them around.
