Trek Books for Kindle

Umm, do you mean Myriad Universes: Shattered Light, from last December or The Sorrows of Empire from January of last year, because that was the last MU book.

 D'oh! Yes it is the Myriad Universes book. Thanks for catching my boo boo! It's not the first time I've done that. I blame it on abbreviating both series as ST:MU "insert title here" on my Reader.

I just sorted out New Frontier #8 Dark Allies to be read. I'm a bit behind in NF. This is from a LIT version so other then things due to the conversion, it was fine.

I have a kindle built into my phone and haven't had any problems except for vanguard 3 where several chapters were repeated. I have had no other formatting issues.

I've loved the experience, feels like I'm using a PADD. However, it is stupid that s&s charges the same for downloads as the print editions since there is no printing expense. I also think it is retarded to charge full price for out of print books that go for a couple bucks in used book stores.

Yeah, as much as I love the MyrU books, I do kinda wish the series had a different title. Although, I guess they might have done that on purpose, so people would associate the two quicker in their minds.

Hrm. I haven't had a huge issue with formatting in the various Kindle books I've bought, Trek and non-Trek. I haven't bought a lot of Trek books on Kindle because they're the same price as the paper version, and, well, I'm sorry, but I shouldn't have to take in the cost of the printing as it's NOT PRINTED.

So I usually just pick up my Trek books used somewhere, unless I'm at Shore Leave (where a local Borders sets up) or it's something I'm dying to have right now. Authors, if that's negatively impacting your royalties, tell me now. I seem to recall a discussion somewhere where someone said that tie-in books usually don't make any royalties.

Plus, I like to get my Trek books autographed, and it's kinda hard to autograph the Kindle.

FWIW, I can download my Kindle books to my computer hard drive, so I don't think Amazon can just "steal" your stuff if you go ahead and back it up at home. My Kindle can hook into my PC via USB, and so can my smart phone if I happen to read anything on the kindle app on there.

As far as autographs go for eBooks, have the author sign a plain piece of paper and then scan the signature and take a page and put it there. Then you can say you have a signed eBook. Of course, this does work a lot better with ePub then Mobipocket.

^ That's a good idea, but it wouldn't be a Shore Leave Friday night if I wasn't trundling around a giant sack of books. Though this year I may lose my book sherpa if the karaoke is scheduled opposite the book signing, as my other half is now co-hosting the karaoke.

I have a great idea... You get the signatures and I'll do the scanning and make the inserts to the eBooks. I was hoping to be able to go to Shore Leave this year. But I cannot do it as I don't have the money. We are going on a 14 night cruise the end of October and that's where my travel funds have gone.

I have a first gen Kindle but still pick up paper books here and there. Back when I first got the device formatting errors were just somethings that had to be dealt with, but the prices were much better. I travel a lot so I still pick up paper books for the first and last 20 minutes of each flight.

Terpette: Great screen name! I'm a Terp alumni myself.

When I first started reading Star Trek eBooks, MS Reader that the format to get them in. They had covers and they were pretty well formatted with little to no errors. Now we don't always get a cover. There are too many text errors and the formatting is a problem. And the prices have gone up as well.

This is my first post on this site, but here goes. I've decided I want to start reading Treklit as there is so much on the Kindle. I'm planning to start at Starfleet: Year One. But I was looking ahead, and I noticed Vanguard: Reap the Whirlwind is not available for Kindle. All of the others are. And it's available for the Nook. Has anybody heard why this is? Is it just a malfunction at Amazon, or is there some other reason? Thanks.

We have no idea. It's really irritating; as recently as two weeks ago, it was available. If you're patient, it probably will be again.

If you know how (or know someone to help) to strip the DRM from ePub or B&N ePub, you can buy Reap the Whirlwind, strip the DRM and use Calibre to convert to Mobipocket and read on a Kindle.

O.K., I just browsed a bit through the Kindle books scouting the prices of the ST books I'm interested in, and either I'm blind or Book Two of CoE: Remembrance of Things Past isn't available at Amazon (neither .de, nor .com).

I understand if they don't have a Kindle version of some of the older titles, but an eBook exclusive story and the concluding part of a two parter (and the series finale to boot)? :wtf:

I just look on Amazon.com and did not find it. I looked by name and also by author. That is an odd one.

I found it yesterday. But I guess the reason it is so hard to find / easy to overlook is that they have put both books under the exact same name into the database.

Book Two

Has anyone pointed this out to Amazon so they can fix their mistake?

Part two did disappear for a while... When I first put it on my wish list, both links worked. By the time I was ready download Book 2, that link didn't work. Grabbed it when I saw the link was working again yesterday.

Perhaps the German ebook readers... (that doesn't sound quite right ;)) here would like to have another option besides Amazon to buy their Trek-eLit: beam-ebooks has started to sell DRM-free epub-versions a few weeks ago.
The prices are the same as on Amazon.de but you don't have to hassle with DRM, which is always are big plus.

I have several availability and pricing complaints about the Kindle Trek books:

- The availability of Vanguard: Summon the Thunder is limited to the US.
- Vanguard: Reap the Whirlwind isn't available at all, and so are some of Greg Cox's books.
- The first Eugenics Wars book costs more than $30.00!
- The first two Errand of Fury books cost more than $18.00!

All these issues need fixing, especially the first two. Who can be made aware of this?
