Not sure if this is the right place but

On the topic of bumping old threads ( which I did a few years ago and got a bollicking of some mod) I find it crazy that bumping an old thread which newer members may not have seen or noticed before is deemed a bad thing and thread is therefore locked it begs the question why is there a time limit in art threads.

surely if a new member or an long time member discovers a thread they may have missed they should have the option to comment,
I do not see the harm in it, it is a discussion forum and art section and as said time limits should not apply.
I can understand the deletion of spam, or posts that might be in the wrong thread or section.
Even if the original poster of the thread is no longer active i am sure others could at least give a thank you or comment.

Well, I'm not sure if @Ptrope handled this particular board rule differently here, but the idea – as I understand it – is to encourage new discussion. Bumping a dead thread might be okay if a genuine new conversation arises from it. Maybe because there's a new aspect to the original topic or someone has done similar artwork and wants to share it in the same thread. It won't be closed then.

But if the new post is just a two-word comment and the original poster is long gone from the board and won't see or react to it, it's frowned upon around here. This is a discussion board and if there's no discussion to be had, because the folks have long disappeared, well then the thread is closed. And keep in mind, the thread is not deleted, it's just closed, so everyone can still look at it.

I get what you are saying that maybe the rule should be applied differently in Fan Art and maybe you are right. I was just trying to follow board rules with this one. Please remember, I'm new to this. :)

not criticizing you in the least M, just merely playing devils advocate for new members (or old) who might feel the same as I do.
Numerous times when looking for stuff for ideas on google images I have found some trek related stuff linked to here and end up in a thread which is years old. As said bumping said thread would have some mod dictating and lecturing me possibly but remember it can be good to acknowledge said thread which was helpful.

COngratultons on becoming moderator!.... Umm, was there an announcement about it on the board? Seems like it should be a pinned a notice, and just giving everyone a heads up.
