Well, I'm not sure if @Ptrope handled this particular board rule differently here, but the idea – as I understand it – is to encourage new discussion. Bumping a dead thread might be okay if a genuine new conversation arises from it. Maybe because there's a new aspect to the original topic or someone has done similar artwork and wants to share it in the same thread. It won't be closed then.
But if the new post is just a two-word comment and the original poster is long gone from the board and won't see or react to it, it's frowned upon around here. This is a discussion board and if there's no discussion to be had, because the folks have long disappeared, well then the thread is closed. And keep in mind, the thread is not deleted, it's just closed, so everyone can still look at it.
I get what you are saying that maybe the rule should be applied differently in Fan Art and maybe you are right. I was just trying to follow board rules with this one. Please remember, I'm new to this.
