Transformers 2 = Better Star Trek 2

Yes, because critics are my personal barometer of success. *eyeroll

Look, the main point here isn't whether or not you felt TF2 was a good movie or not. It should be a good thing that someone who didn't like the first Trek feels there's room for hope the second one won't be as bad because they corrected some flaws from the first Transformers.

The problem with your thinking is, Transformers fans did not want balls added to Transformers or Racist Transformers. They did not request any of that.

Orci and Kurtzman did not listen to fans because nothing that was added was what TF fans wanted. Maybe its what generic action Bay fans wanted, but certainly not Transformers fans.

You make the assumption that I care if I'm in the minority;)

I don't. At all. I make my points based on what I observe, think and feel. Not on what anybody else thinks. So bringing up how much money a film makes, how it's rated elsewhere or what some critic thinks that isn't you....

You're just wasting time.

And I didn't mention the things that sucked, I mentioned what was improved this time around.

The script itself was SHIT! Terrible story, lame and cringe-inducing dialogue, and bad acting.

Are we talking Batman and Robin bad? I thought the first Transformers movie was okay at best and it looks like everyone thinks Bay dropped the ball with the sequel.

I definitely wouldn't go that far since I still liked this movie to a certain degree. It was just weird. No one acted like how a normal person would act, especially pretty much every character during the college scenes. The amount of offensive dialogue was also excessive and out of place.

Exactly why i figured the first one as a disater and didn't my waste my cash or time watching the second one!

What, did you think they acted normally in the first movie?

Oh and No "Me, Grimlock" = bad
You're the only one who agreed with me, it seems!

But, seriously, the way you guys talk... I'm surprised to hear that this movie was even worse than the first. It'll be interesting to hear the numbers for opening weekend. The theaters around me are showing the damn thing at all hours of the day, but I refuse to spend my money.

I'm still not using Transformers as any sort of compass for anything related to the Trek movies.

I didn't think anyone in the first one acted as crazy as the people in the college scenes, notwithstanding the
Transformer girl
. Rainn Wilson's character, the girl with the apple, the roommates, etc all seemed like out of some warped version of reality. Not to mention the frat party/strip club scene. Definitely nice for eye candy, but stupid in general.

Well, it should have at least $190-200 million by Sunday.

Star Trek definitely has room for improvement, but for every Trek fan I hope the writers listen to there are probably five I'd rather they never even encounter.

Glad to hear somebody liked T2, though. I still plan to see it in a week or so.

This better be satire.

Or possibly just a difference of opinion.

I'm sorry, but gross racism/sexism isn't always a matter of opinion, there comes a time when right-thinking people have to actually draw the fucking line, and the line must be drawn HERE. THIS FUCKING FAR. NO FUCKING FURTHER. Transformers 2 is the biggest pile of shit to ever be stepped on by man!

And yet... Possibly No. 1 movie of 2009...

Transformers 2 was a very good and entertaining movie, so there is no need to worry about the Trek sequel. Just remember it was made for a different age group.

However, Orci and Kurtzman didn´t do too well with Mission Impossible 3. The first 35 minutes were really boring. The only good thing was Orci´s cameo at the party. That´s the main reason why that movie didn´t do that well, not Tom Cruise.

And The Legend of Zorro was far behind the first Zorro movie with Banderas.
I just hope they don´t turn Trek 2 into a soap opera like they did in that movie.

I saw it this Thursday night in IMAX. Plot? Bleh. Script? Nah. Perfect consistency with the movie canon? No. Action and effects? Out the wazoo (sometimes to the point of distraction). Honestly, that last bit is what I went for, and I got my money's worth. If you want to talk low production values, major production mistakes, horrible plot, etc., we need to talk the original cartoon version. But then again, I'm currently rewatching it and loving every minute of it, even the errors, just as with TF and TF2, most of the ST movies, etc.

Wait... the Transformers have balls...?

If they listen to this board, a giant sombrero being ridden by Captain Robau will attack earth, and in order to stop him the crew of the Enterprise will have to follow canon to the letter AND break it entirely at the exact same time. And the action has to come to a complete standstill so there can be a separate Gary Mitchell/Finnegan/Robert April gay threesome subplot.

I'd go see it! :)

I have to agree with the OP that, at the very least, there was an upgrade in the characterizations of the robots. Visually, they used brighter colors and more distinct designs to distinguish between the more prominent robots. Personality-wise, they skewed toward caricature but, in this case, it allowed for viewers to distinguish between the characters better. We're not talking full-fledged character development here, but, comparatively, the robots are more fully realized characters in TF2 than in TF1.

I'm just not sure this is a reliable indicator for Trek XII, though.

Incidentally, as for stupid, crass humor -- what difference is there between a robot urinating on a person or a robot having balls? A robot humping someone's leg or LarryCurlyMoe Autobots? Personal preference aside, they're all lame. Sometimes you laugh at stupid humor, sometimes you groan. But if you thought TF2 wasn't going to have stupid humor (meaning you had an equal chance of cringing or chuckling every time a joke was made), you were fooling yourself.

If you were to look closely at the credits, you would see a third writer in the mix. I've heard that crap like the Twins and Balls on a transformer seem to be more up his alley than Orci and Kurtzman have ever demonstrated. And likely far more dependent on Michael Bay's taste.

That said, I don't think either Transfomers movie is a masterpiece by any stretch, and I think Trek XI outshines them both by an incredibly absurd margin, but I got what I wanted from a movie based on a toy franchise which is directed by Michael Bay.

Optimus Prime said epic things and giant robots blew shit up. I didn't need War and Peace here.
