It's like and one of those episodes of that one show where the space people would 'beam' down to an alien planet to find pseudo-humans, interact with them incognito, and then make some kind of philosophical choice at the end.

The idea that the signals might be indicating disaster events/major incidents in need of fixing, seems to be bearing out.

It's TOS era. So they're aliens who look like humans and use English.
Of course, this could just mean she's getting redshirted.
