HMS Discovery doesn't count? You notice that we haven't heard of a ship yet in this series that uses the old Trek convention of naming after military naval vessels?
“This ship is called the Discovery for a few reasons. Not the least of which is Stanley Kubrick’s contribution to the Discovery on 2001: A Space Odyssey, NASA’s vessel the Discovery, and also the sense of discovery. [It’s about] what the word ‘discovery’ means to Star Trek audiences who have been promised a future by Gene Roddenberry where we come together as a planet and seek new worlds and new alien races to explore and understand and collaborate with.”
I learned of it in elementary school, but I suppose the producers probably never took Washington State history. That's fair enough. There's no reason to think that the producers are even aware of the existence of the ship you're talking about.
Again with the time anomaly?
I like that. It was always a bit odd when Starfleet ships were invariably named after twentieth century US naval ships, despite it being a multispecies alliance three centuries forward. You notice that we haven't heard of a ship yet in this series that uses the old Trek convention of naming after military naval vessels?
No.Maybe we could see a USS T'Pol in Discovery - or a medical ship called the Phlox.
Ok, looking at the scene again, yes, Kirk mentioned him. But it was used for trivia.
Don't hurt yourself moving those goal posts!
And the mention from "What are Little Girls..." predates "Operation: Annihilate".
