Ah, I see. No worries, we all have those kinds of days now and again.

Re: Typhon Pact: Plagues of Night by DRGIII Review Thread (Spoilers!)

Just my two cents, but if:

DS9 is destroyed, it would mean all three space stations (MU Terok Nor & Vanguard as well) of importance in Star Trek literature will have been destroyed this year. Lame.

Re: Typhon Pact: Plagues of Night by DRGIII Review Thread (Spoilers!)

For those interested, my local Barnes and Noble had this on the shelves today. Picked it up. I'm still in the Worlds of DS9 so I have a bit to go before getting to it.

Suggestion: If you're the type who flips to the back of the book to try and glean a hint of what's going on, do yourself a favor and DON'T. ;-)

Re: Typhon Pact: Plagues of Night by DRGIII Review Thread (Spoilers!)

Talking of Sisko's behaviour, I just re-read Fearfull Symetry and The Soulkey, and both novels already start Sisko on his new path. He is appereantly given a vision by the Prophets of things to come, atleast that how it is comes across to me. And judging from what we know, it was probably a vision of the Trouble with the Ascendents.

[. . .]

So, if anyone wants to blame anyone for Sisko's path, please realize that it was all part of a bigger plan for the DS9 story arc already laid out, one that ultimatly never came to fruition.

I hadn't thought of tracing Sisko's behaviour back before RBOE, into the last books of the DS9 relaunch. This puts it into better perspective for me.

Agreed that the arc wasn't concluded in the context of the DS9 relaunch, but I wonder if it--or something like it--might be in the process of being completed in George's duology.

Re: Typhon Pact: Plagues of Night by DRGIII Review Thread (Spoilers!)

I just flicked to the last page and read the last line: OMG!

Don't be such a tease. For those interested.
"Oh, Jake," Nog sighed, "you give the best oo-mox."

Please, for the love of all that's holy, tell us that's fake...

Yeah that spoiler tag sure looks tempting, doesn't it.
But I can wait till I get there on my own. Just a few more days.:bolian:

Anyone know why the nook version of this book is listed at 13.99?

Re: Typhon Pact: Plagues of Night by DRGIII Review Thread (Spoilers!)

I had a healthy dislike for Rough Beasts, mainly for what it did to Sisko so this will not be an automatic buy for me. I might have to really sit down and give it a read through before I buy it. Plus if I see a lot of good reviews, and especially if I read that Sisko's character has been redeemed, I'll pick it up. So far the Typhon Pact books haven't lived up to their potential but hope springs eternal.

Re: Typhon Pact: Plagues of Night by DRGIII Review Thread (Spoilers!)

My memory is a bit sketchy, but didn't DRGIII throw a childish hissy fit and rage quit the forums rather than listen to the legitimate criticism of Rough Beasts?

So Plagues of Night will be more of the same. Pass.

I love these kinds of rants. DRG threw a hissy fit, but of course every bit if the criticism levied against him was reasoned, even-handed, and, most hilariously, legitimate. Because that's, you know, not a subjective viewpoint at all.

You're right -- your memory is indeed sketchy. ;)

^Very much so. I don't remember any hissy fit at all.

I had to skip down the page quickly, but all I'll say is I'm struggling to not click on the spoiler button. I feel like Chekov and Terrell when they held the phasers against Kirk in TWoK!

Tuesday CANNOT get here soon enough, lol.

Are you sure you're at the right page? The entry on my wishlist, and the page it links to both said $7.99.

Ah, the dreaded day known as "Tuesday". Of course, we won't get to read this until Tuesday!

DRGIII was listening to legitimate criticism just fine, but he got tired of people essentially throwing hissy fits at him because they disagreed with his creative decisions. And it wasn't just from the reaction to Rough Beasts -- it was, in his view, a long-term problem of the general atmosphere at the TrekLit board. (For instance, some happy asshole actually went and accused him of inserting sex scenes into the Crucible trilogy just to titillate readers and increase sales, and flatly accused DRGIII of lying when he assured him that he wrote the sex scenes in the Crucible books because of his honest assessments of those characters.)

Basically, DRGIII put up with a lot of unearned vitriol and then got tired of it. He didn't throw any hissy fit; he posted that he was leaving and why, and he hasn't shown up since.
