^ No pressure.

If it takes longer, then I might go for a full re-read with annotations on hand. It's like watching a movie with commentary.

I decided to order this book it's so popular it's hard to find a copy at the book store right now.I look forward to reading this story about The First Federation and having Balok in the novel will be intriguing to see how the story unfolds.

Interesting system the Enterprise visits after decoding a message. Christopher what motivated you to have that Jovian/Earth configuration? Not certain about your descriptions of the Jovian interior.

I was at Barnes and Noble the salesperson told me it was one of their best sellers. I decided to order it online instead. The winter weather is just too nasty to keep looking for it in the stores right nw.

I finished this book in the train this morning and it was clebrly outstanding for me.
The corbomite maneuver was already a good episode, but the story Christopher wrote based on it was astounding.
It has all I like in Star Trek, a thoughtful plot, interesting aliens, references, some action but not too much, character driven scenes...
The web of worlds in itself is a wonderful idea, and with much potential
Well done !

i'm only 4 chapters in, but this book is already outstanding. Christopher Bennett is such a master at world building. As well as nailing the characters perfectly. The Corbomite Maneuver has always been one of my favorite TOS episodes. It's great to see the First Federation expanded upon.

This is book is a gem, and I highly recommend anyone to read it. The attention to detail and the "person-ness" of all characters is enjoyable to read. All of the Enterprise crew are characterized well, including their vulnerabilities. I loved the First Federation, their home, and their backstory. I particularly thought the Dassik were an exciting addition to the Star Trek universe.

Ok I am putting aside my pre Destiny novels and starting on this one. It sounds like a better read!

I admit it is a highly detailed story,so far. Christopher seeks to excel at this. Need to think a lot at the stability analysis of the collapsing structure.

Its taking me while to get into the story, a lot of ST technobabble in chapter two. Is there a ST bible you have to follow?

Naturally we all have to be consistent with screen canon, and there's no shortage of reference sources to consult in order to ensure that.

As for the scientific and technical concepts in Chapter 2, though, most of that is either real science or my own conjectures, not "ST technobabble." I think of the word "technobabble" as referring to dialogue that sounds technical but is essentially gibberish. I always strive to ground my writing in real science and plausible conjecture.

I really enjoy your work Christopher and I often feel like I learn something when I read your stories but it does sometimes feel like you get into the weeds when the science comes on thick.

Just started the audiobook this morning. I'm taking a break from The War Against the Chtorr, following volume two.

I'm really liking it so far. Christopher never disappoints.

Finished this yesterday! 8/10 for me.
Took me a while to warm up to the plot and the OCs but my favourite one is Koust, especially the party scene at the end. As for Spock, did he get it on with Nisu? Was his microslight interest in Uhura a homage to the reboot movies?

That's certainly implied, though a gentleman doesn't kiss and tell...

Was his microslight interest in Uhura a homage to the reboot movies?

That and the flirtation between them in "The Man Trap" and "Charlie X." The reboot relationship didn't come out of nowhere. There was clearly something being set up between Spock and Uhura in the early first season, but it was presumably kiboshed due to the censors' fear of an interracial romance (they couldn't care less about interspecies romance as long as the actors were white).
