Though I liked the Breen, I always thought it would've been so cool if it had been the Tholians or the Gorn who had joined the Dominion.

Quickly skimming through the Horta entry, the TNG novel "Dyson's Sphere" has a ship crewed by Hortas in it.

^I recently found, I think, the book by looking at one of the ST wikis for ST TNG books in the early 2000s. I think the book is Battle for Betazed. I'm not sure if it had the Horta though, either it or one of the Genesis Wave books.

I'd have liked to see some of the identical to human races like the Gideon or the Argelians just to see what has happened to some of these planets Kirk visited in the last century. Maybe they could have come up with an amazing explanation as to why they are externally identical to humans...maybe something along the lines of, "We do not discuss it with outsiders."

Yes. It's "Dyson Sphere" - a novel featuring a Federation starship filled with rock, so the horta crew can tunnel to their heart's content!

There are two ST novels with one of the Horta's kids serving on Kirk's Enterprise. One is The Wounded Sky, the other is My Enemy, My Ally. They're both enjoyable novels.

Naraht wasn't in "The Wounded Sky". You're thinking of "My Enemy, My Ally", in which he was added to Duane's original cast of continuing characters, and its sequel, "The Romulan Way".

Naraht made many other appearances, though. In Diane Duane's comics, written for DC, and the computer game "The Kobayashi Alternative", plus the remaining novels in the "Rihannsu" saga (three more titles, concluding with "The Empty Chair"), plus cameos in "Spock's World" and Peter Morwood's "Rules of Engagement".

There are also horta characters in "The Starship Trap", "Titan: The Red King" and the story "Mother's Day" in "New Worlds, New Civilizations".

TOS already explained this. The race called "The Preservers" seeded humans across the galaxy, not to mention that the TNG episode "The Chase" claimed a "missing link" progenitor race for most of the bipedal sentient races known to the Federation.
