TOS shuttle bay set question

2. By the third or fourth episode, Dr Smith should have been shoved out the airlock or beaten to death with a shovel. Besides his directly threatening the members of the family and getting them into mortal danger. It was blatantly obvious that he intentionally caused the robot's malfunction that stranded them in space to begin with.

It's easy to say "Kill Smith!" when you're not the one who'll have fictional blood on your conscience. Even if Don staged an accident and no one suspected him, he'd have a pretty heavy feeling in his stomach about it from then on.

MeTV started running LiS in order a few months back. They came on late so I DVRd them.
After watching about the first dozen episodes, I've come to two conclusions:
!. The Robinson family must have been selected as being the dumbest family on Earth. I guess the authorities figured if they could succeed then anyone would.

As Dr. Smith said way too often, "Oh, the pain." I agree. I would have dropped Smith off at the nearest asteroid.

The 'full size' shuttlecraft bay as shown in JTB was pretty cool, with the disembarking passengers and the honor guard. For the low budget, the set designer and construction crew did an admirable job.

Fictional blood doesn't really weigh too heavily on my conscience, seeing as how they're fictional people and all.

BOOM -- I just killed Sherlock Holmes.
BOOM -- Spock's dead again.
BOOM -- So long, Batman.
BOOM -- I just resurrected everyone on Krypton just so I could blow up the entire planet again. I'm drunk with power. ;)

Or not..? :(

The miniature work-- on both Star Trek and Lost in Space-- played a huge role in making me a loyal fan starting in the 1970s. Along with the music scores on both shows, the fx shots always gave me that extra enjoyment to prop up well-memorized plots and dialogue.

I Love the sound of The Jupiter's engines when it was reaching hyper speeds, they reused it in The Time Tunnel and even Land of The Giants but for me it's best appearance as it were was in Planet of The Apes (1968) when The Icarus races across the desert and crashes in Dead Lake! Fantastic moment in picture history! :adore:

Actually Moonbase Alpha (Space 1999) had their own Dr.Smith character, Commissioner Simmonds (played by Roy Dotrice) and he was quickly dealt with by the crew courtesy of guest alien Captain Zantor (played by Christopher Lee) in one of the most horrifying ways possible as well!

I think they knew for sure after episode four where Smith let the cat out of the bag with his threats of using the robot against the family if they did anything to displease him!

My question about the remastered Shuttle bay: Why do the control booths droop?

The Commissioner's fate really stuck with me for a while as a kid. Although he really did it to himself.

I think every time I've seen POTA there's been some bit of recognition of that sound from somewhere, that I couldn't put my finger on...

PS, you don't kill your only medical doctor (Smith), even if he is an a-hole....

There wasn't really any "set" for the full-sized shuttlebay -- just the shuttlecraft mockup sitting on a bare soundstage with a door and a bit of corridor in the foreground.

Maybe they're starting to sag with age?

More than that, they actual drop!
(compare the live action scenes for Journey to Babel and Immunity Syndrome)
I'm not seeing it.

Because the drooping control booths were noted in the remastered shuttlebay, not the FX miniature. I never noticed previously, but googled it and see that is notable in many shots. More fodder for the remastered haters I guess. :)
