1st season has the best writers, the most novelty. 2nd season has a lot of good eps, some novel ideas, and the best character development. 3rd season has a few good eps and a little good character development, worst dialogue.

1st: Most Science-fictiony, most bad episodes.
2nd: Most Trekkie, most good episodes, fewest bad episodes.
3rd: Most Mediocre.

I enjoy S1 and S2 equally, and personally I don't think S3 is that bad. It has a few truly bad episodes, but so do S1 and S2. Maybe it's just because I enjoy the mediocre filler episodes more than most people, but I think S3 is vastly underrated, there's some decent stuff in there. It's undeniably the weaker season of the three, but I still love it (for the most part).
