TOS Remastered

I'm happy to see more people finding fault with the Remastering, and being able to discuss it with civility. Back when they came out it seemed like there were two topics guaranteed to get someone flamed around here: criticizing Firefly and criticizing Trek Remastered.

I watched one and was so horrified I've ignored Trek Remastered ever since. Thankfully the original versions are on the Blu-ray (which sort of contradicts the argument the originals couldn't be released in HD) but the fact I'd have to be buying the Remastered versions has actually put me off buying those sets.

From what I've seen of the remastered episodes, it looks like the majority is better than the original series, but some things do look worse.
I haven't seen it in HD, but at SD the CG ship doesn't at all look out of place with the live footage. It doesn't look like the CG budget was all that big though, because some of the effects do look a bit cheap, and some things do look worse than TOS. But the new establishing shots of the Enterprise look worlds better than the old blue screen fringed shots.

Seems to me the CGI team took the time to make their ship model do a few things that the old physical model couldn't do, because the heavy model had that huge rod suspending it for the camera, and one side gaping open with wires running everywhere.
Furthermore, all of the original flyby shots were done by dollying, panning and tilting the camera while the 11-foot, 225-pound model remained stationary in front of a blue screen. That set-up limited the range and speed of the ship’s apparent movement. The problem with too much of today’s CGI is that it suffers from BYC Syndrome — Because You Can.

I just made my colleague some tea, but it turns out they like coffee! What are your thoughts on coffee v. tea?
Exactly so. But we'll have this pointless discussion another thousand times

Coffee. Whole bean from 40 lb. burlap bags, the ORIGINAL way. None of this fancy-Dan, Star Buck Reroastered "Coffee, Ground, Inside" process (CGI) crap for me!

Yeah, whatever. I like coffee.

Trekkies are going to go on with this nonsensical effort to assert some ownership - emotional if not real - of Star Trek until the first and second generation of Trek fans dies out. That's not too many decades hence, of course - and then, not one word posted on these forums on any of these topics will be of interest to anyone ever again.

It's just a TV show.

Why do you post here, if it's all so pointless?

Because that's what Dennis does. He bitches with the same response when someone disagrees with him or tries to discuss something he's talked about before. Just ignore his bitching or just agree with him and he'll shut up. He's a bully and power tripper... Seriously, just ignore the old ball sack.

Not in this forum, sport.

Warning for flaming.

* *

I've never got why people have to get angry over the stuff. I disagree with some positions regarding Trek, agree with others, but it's a fun show and there's no need to get upset if someone's take is different than yours.

It's nice that we have so much Trek out there. By now, the Kirk vs. Spock arguments would have grown tedious without several new series to pick apart instead.

Oh yes- the mod's to Dennis's rescue... Again.

The man who can stir up as much trouble as he wants spewing his usual crap about how everything has been said and done. That's all he has to say. Unless he agrees with you of course.

Just shut down my account. Trek BBS is no fun jack asses like Dennis who quite specifically trolls for trouble with his atangonist comments, and moderators like T'Bonz who has some odd vested interest in Running to his defence.

So long T'Bonz. I mean, Sport.

*Shrug.* Had Dennis said the same thing, I'd have warned him. In fact, I have warned him in the past. I'd have warned *anyone* who posted what you did.

If you don't want to post here anymore, scramble your password. If you do want to post here, don't flame.
