Copy finally appeared. Expect to start it in a couple of days.
Hope to be done before the LV Con. Will you be there, Greg.
Well I guess you could say that whoever wrote the TNG episode Cost of Living thought of something similar. Where they had Lwaxana say something to the computer before entering the holodeck. And the computer replied. Probably, "Enter when ready".Why has no Author thought to do that before?
Still really should be come, once. Even if it seems gratuitous. No harm in Una seeing Chapel while McCoy is unavailable.
I'm not sure what your first sentence means, but with regard to your last, there doesn't seem to be any real reason for it to happen, either, other than to satisfy some fannish desire to tick off imaginary boxes; and while that can certainly be a lot of fun, it definitely can also be gratuitous (Peter David's books in particular are full of things like this). Short of a compelling story element, I can't see any reason for Una and Chapel to interact, or even for a resemblance to be commented on; after all, if Spock hasn't mentioned it after all this time...
I thought that it would be in character for you, Greg. Maybe the next appearance of Captain Una?Well, it's not as though I'm above that kind of gratuitous in-joke either. I confess, part of me wonders if I should have swapped out Riley for Chapel in one particular scene . ...![]()
The '90s YA TOS Starfleet Academy trilogy had Spock and McCoy meeting in the second book, and then they meet Kirk in the third book. I think pretty every story with the characters in the academy has them meeting there.Sure, but if you're going to tell a prequel story that has Kirk and Spock together at the Academy, you're not just gonna have them be passing acquaintances; you're gonna want to use it as an opportunity to show the beginnings of their iconic friendship. That's what the '09 movie did, it's what Harve Bennett's rejected prequel idea would've done, and I think it's probably what Shatner's Academy: Collision Course did, though I'm not sure.
The TNG Starfleet Academy series had Riker and Geordi attending the Academy together, Beverly and Data also knew each other. The Voyager ones had Janeway also knowing Riker at the Academy, though that was also established in Mosaic, wasn't it?The '90s YA TOS Starfleet Academy trilogy had Spock and McCoy meeting in the second book, and then they meet Kirk in the third book. Looking forward to reading the next two books in the series and I noticed they are written by different authors. Since they all were released close to the same time, I guess the authors were writing them simultaneously? That must have been a challenge in itself.
You have no idea.
Seriously, Dave, Dayton, Kevin, and I were in constant touch while writing this trilogy. We're talking LOTS of emails flying back and forth, since we all live in different parts of the country. Fortunately, we've known each other for years and are used to talking Trek . . ..
As for "Una," the idea that Number One's actual name is impossible to pronounce has been floated in TREK novels before, but since we could hardly avoid mentioning her name for three entire books, we came up with the "Una" thing together.
