TOS - Killing Time - First edition

Is it really worth the silly numbers I have seen on eBay?

The reason I ask is that I bought a job-lot of 70 books for $29.88.
The next book in my reading order is that book and I seem to have the first edition.

Should I put it aside.

It's not mint but it is in very good condition.

Supposedly, Roddenberry himself forced the first edition to be recalled because he didn't like the Kirk/Spock romantic undertones.

You may notice that the ebay listings for $900+ also have the option to make an offer. So it's hard to tell exactly how much they will go for.

Here's a comparison between the first edition and the revised version:

I have a first edition copy that I paid cover price for new at the time of release.
I've read it several times. I love alternate realities and as I'm gay I can appreciate a little homoeroticism, but I think it's reputation is a bit exaggerated. The gay subtext isn't all that overt and I think for many readers would've gone over their heads.
I recommend you read it for yourself and make your own judgement.
For what it's worth, despite bloated ebay offerings I'd expect it wouldn't be terribly hard to track down at a larger used book store. The first print was widely circulated before the recall so it's not all that rare.

Well, I'll definitely go ahead and read it.
I am very careful with books. Never read one with first putting a proper dust cover and they normally are in the same state when I finish them as they were when I started (except the one I dropped in water!).
