TOS fan reactions to 'Discovery'?

Um, they'd realize that it was a TV show made fifty-plus years ago with different sets and actors, and just go with it?

I like to think that most viewers can grasp that without their heads exposing.

Or without their "immersion" being spoiled too much. :)
I wonder if some modern T.V viewers imaginations are that limited. Do they expect all incarnations of Robin Hood to look like 1950's Errol Flynn wearing tights?

How many actors have played Hamlet since the original production?

TOS could be very action oriented when it wanted to be. Almost every episode contains some form of fight be it mano-a-mano or ship to ship. Amok Time and Arena come to mind.

Gene Roddenberry made it clear to the writers in a variety of memos that Star Trek was an action-adventure show first and foremost. He pushed for more thrills and excitement to capture a wider audience.

I'm a huge TOS fan. It's my first love. But I enjoy DSC for what it is. I see things in a very simple way:

That was Trek then. This is Trek now.

Same approach I took with the Kelvin films.

I even take the concept further. For me, each Trek show stands on its own. It may reference other shows, like TOS or TNG or whatever, but the show is the show on its own merits with its own continuity and rules.

It's also not the 1960's. I don't expect the Enterprise on a show made in the 21st Century to look like something from the middle of the 20th Century.
I don't really like any design aesthetic other than mid-20th century modernism (and extrapolations thereof). STDisco just doesn't hit the spot for me visually, except for a few elements here and there like Sarek's home and furnishings. I enjoy the look of The Incredibles movies way more than DSC.

Maybe that's why Picard always sounds more compelling to me than some of the other captains.

Accents in general are compelling to me, and part of why I could never take Archer very seriously. He sounded more like a baseball coach than a starship captain. I work in a refugee agency in my city, so I always perk up when I hear it.
